10 most dangerous toys

Today msn.com posted the 10 most dangerous toys of 2009. some of these include a foam rocket launcher, children's book Batman and Wolverine action figures. A pogo board, "Curious George" counting book, a doll with a mini nursery and toy musical instruments also made the list. Thgese are dangerous because they could cause serious eye or head injuries, choking or children can strangle themselves. To me, these tots listed above dont seem that dangerous but in fact, there were 19 toy-related deaths in the United States last year and about 235,300 toy-related injuries treated in hospital emergency rooms.

Advice: For christmas shopping, if there is more than 1 or 2 warnings on the label, avoid the toy all together.

Yes, I agree. It seems so dangerous to have these toys lying around the house. Parents and shoppers for children's toys should really think about what they buy for toddlers and whether or that that is going to cause them harm. Toy makers should also be careful in producing the right toys for children and toddlers.

I know some toys can hurt kids more easily than others, but we also have to remember that kids can hurt themselves and each other with practically anything. Whats really important, in my opinion, is that parents are responsible and supervise their children accordingly.

I completely agree with Rachel. It is pretty much assumed that kids will hurt them selves one way or another, but I find it hard to believe that msn was actually able to pick the "10 most dangerous". Honestly out of the 235,000 toy-related injuries, how many can you actually blame on the toy...?

For example, one of my favorite toys were "nerf guns" or as they call then "foam rocket launchers" (one of the most "dangerous toys"). I guess they can cause eye injury if you actually shoot someone in the eye with one, but the toy shoots foam pieces. I don't ever remember foam causing any harm unless someone decided to eat a piece of foam. But that cannot be blamed on the manufacturer because people can eat anything and choke on it.

Man!!! Toy makers gotta be kept in check. Toys are for having fun... THey shouldn't end up hurting or killing people.
It is sad to here stories of children tragically dying and ending up in the hospital because of toys.

If any toy is even thought or seems dangerous in anyway, it should be taken off the market.

Colin... that means that everything on the market should be removed... I personally would take the risks of technology.

Agreed with Rachel, nicely summed up already, so I won't add to it.

Serena, again, anything can be used to cause harm. Heck, everyone carries a bag of "weapons" every day to school in the form of binders, books, a backpack, pencils, etc.

It is appalling to hear that children's toys are so dangerous that some kids have to go to the emergency room to recover. Since children are the next generation of our world, it is sad to see them playing with more violent toys as time passes. However, many toys can cause choking so perhaps this news could be slightly dramatized.
