Oh wait, we're actually doing something different?!

I mean, who would want to change a FAILING war plan? psh.

Finally, Obama seems like he is attempting to change his Afghan war strategy. Obama has gone through various war options, but will not announce a final decision until he returns from a 9-day trip to Asia. Speculators believe that Obama is leaning towards adding an additional 30,000 troops to speed up the war process.

I am personally excited to hear this news. We might be able to finally leave Afghanistan as a whole and start putting troops back in their homes. This 8 year war needs to end within the next year or else it might just increase military spending. I will definitely be watching the news 9 days from now.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be seeing the end of the conflict in Afghanistan anytime soon. The article says, "The White House says President Barack Obama is considering four options, which range from following General McChrystal's advice to sending as few as 10,000 to 15,000 troops." So it seems like whatever Obama chooses to do, there will be more troops deployed to Afghanistan.

The problem is that no matter how many troops there are, there is always going to be some radical out there who agrees with the terrorists and fights for them.
If the US can train and send troops to Afghanistan, whats stopping the terrorists from recruiting more people too?

I feel like it's definitely time to reevaluate our strategy in Afghanistan--the conflict has gone on for 8 years! Esther makes a good point in that the article was very unclear about how many troops Obama plans to send. It could be anywhere from 10,000 to 40,000! Hopefully, the however many more troops Obama decides to send will make a difference.

I don't really see how sending MORE troops to Afghanistan is really speeding up the END of the war. In my opinion, as long as we keep sending more troops overseas, the terrorist radicals will keep recruiting troops to fight the troops we send. It's a Catch-22, but I think that we should leave Afghanistan ASAP.

Well, I think the radicals and terrorist organizations are hoping for the US to just back down. I am pretty sure that because of their lack of superior equipment and training, this type of "hit and run" guerrilla tactic, as used in Vietnam by the Vietcong, is their best strategy. However, so far it is working in making us waste money and lives, since the situation in Afghanistan doesn't seem to be getting any better. The question is should we pull out of Afghanistan now like we did in Vietnam or should we still keep wasting resources? Either way, sending 30 thousand more troops, in my opinion is just increasing the chance of killed civilians and troops landing on mines.

I agree, i am also personally excited. Im tired of always hearing in the news of the deaths from suicide bombings and attacks.
I also agree, however, that sending in 30,000 troops is not a good choice. We have already been sending in many people over the years, and it does not seem to be helping us out. I agree that more people will just die if we send them in.
However, i agree with henry that thats what they want us to do. So, i really have no idea what the best option for us is.
