The truth about energy drinks

Are Energy drinks really a good idea?

The five most common/unhealthiest energy drinks in the United States are:
1.Sobe Energy Adrenaline Rush
2.AMP Energy
3.Red Bull
4. Starbuck Double Shot and Coffee
5. 5-hour Energy

I want to explain about Sobe energy Adrenaline Rush. It is by far the worst energy drink out there. It has 260 calories, 66 g sugars, and 152 mg caffeine. It has natual compounds that are needed for metabolism but it doesnt help with energy. However, that sugar contents is ridiculous and will set you up for a major sugar crash later. This drink has caused problems in human's health like in St Josephs hospital in arizona, three people had seizures after drinking approximately two 24-ounce energy drinks in a short period of time. Also, most people are already consuming too much energy, which is why there’s an obesity problem. A lot of times, it is the fact the people have too much sugar in their systems and that is why they are tired.. not because they don't have enough. Think about it.

My advice would be to limit yourself to one drink! if you need energy, go ahead and get a non sweetened drink like black coffee or even water. There are so many subsitutes for energy drinks that are much healthier than these.

To add to Emily's post. Energy can be obtained by consuming healthy food and getting plenty of rest.

Sugar, based on what I know, overloads one's metabolism causing it to crash as soon as it burns out.

I agree with Emily's advice. Energy drinks are overall a bad idea regardless of whether they are calorie free or not because our body is not meant to handle intense energy boosts which does contribute to obesity and type 2 diabetes. If you want a reasonable energy boost, either get some regular tea, coffee, or even something with carbs. Energy drinks will not give you the result you want.

Although I do agree with energy drinks being bad for one's health and that alternative sources should be sought after, I have to disagree with that statement. When most people think energy drinks or want energy, they seek immediate, noticeable forms of energy. At least for me, drinking tea or coffee does not give me that perk that an energy drink does. Also, the fact that energy drinks come in cans and are instantly there for consumption are an added benefit as it is more convenient to get the energy you want right at hand instead of waiting a few minutes for your tea or coffee to get ready.

"FRS", which I drink myself, is a popular "healthy" energy drink. It contains different antioxidants, including polyphenols which help ward off different types of cancer and diseases.

Personally I don't even think that energy drinks help you that much. Like Seth said, if you want something that will give you the result you want, you should try going for something different. Perhaps coffee, or any other type of tea. Energy drinks seem to be loaded with carbs and that is only going to affect your body and health in the long-run and perhaps even lead to severe diseases.

This is the same as drinking juice. I hear from a lot of people that people who drink juice on a daily basis are able to gain 10-15 pounds per year. This is because juice also has tonsss of sugar from the grocery stores!

THere are better forms to getting energy than drinking energy drinks. When i want energy, i just eat a lot! Cause doesn't eating a lot give u more calories, which is energy?

I dont know about you guys, but energy drinks dont really help me. However, i don't have anything against them. Many people ahve said taht energy drinks do give them the added boost and energy. I think it depends on who you are or what your metabolism is.

I do have to agree taht 66 grams of sugar is a bit much. Its just like drinking candy.

Wow 66 grams of sugar?? That's like double of Coca Cola... and I'm sure that 152 mg of caffeine isn't too good to take. I remember drinking Red Bull a couple years back as an energy booster but after the energy wore off, I would totally just crash. Yeah energy drinks really aren't that great overall. Nothing compares to the energy we get from sleep.

I agree with you that coffee is a better alternative than energy drinks. However, the ultimate solution is simply to sleep and rise at a decent time.

Energy drinks taste disgusting and I know they are bad for me. Even though Emily's blogpost just further substantiaed my views regarding energy drinks, when it's 2 in the morning an i'm still working on college apps or poetry essays, energy drinks are my last resort to stay awake. I think i've gotten immune to caffeine in coffee and tea. Hopefully one every once in awhile wont be fatal.
