Immigrants Cause Global Warming?

I just saw what seemed to be an anti-immigrant ad on TV (I can't judge it completely because I didn't pay too much attention to it). The guy talking on it said that immigrants release four times more carbon emissions in the US than their home countries.
What he said is probably true but this irritated me because he made it seem as though the immigrants are the problem and that they cause global warming. The immigrants are not at fault here because the countries that these immigrants come from probably do not release as much carbon emissions as the US does. So if an immigrant switches a light on in America, they will be emitting more carbon dioxide emissions than if they switch a light from their home country, say, Denmark.

I find this rather hypocritical seeing as how America is almost entirely comprised of immigrants. Whoever said this is obviously racist and biased, and using immigrants as a scapegoat.

This is ridiculous. Honestly, without immigrants, our country would suffer. We are all guilty of adding to the cause of global warming, some more than others, but there is no way you can but the blame on immigrants. These people need to focus their attention to actually making a difference, rather than blaming others.

I completely agree with you because i remember hearing that if America continued to leak out fossil fuels, we would need four earths to support us because of all the resources being used. I think instead of shifting blame on people, the best thing to do is to accept responsibility and do something about global warming such as raising awareness or consuming less.

From the way you describe the ad, it doesn't sound to me like they are accusing the immigrant of anything. It sounds more to me like they are accusing America of producing more emissions per capita than any other country. That it is the social and economic norm here to produce more emissions than it is in the home countries of said immigrants.

I agree with Mei Mei. Immigrants have in a way helped out our country enough though they shouldn't be here. We are all somewhat responsible for global warming and we shouldn't be blaming it entirely on immigrants. Instead of blaming others, we should blame ourselves and think about what each of us can do to make a contribution to this and reduce global warming.

I find it interesting how comments lately have just been agreements with the poster, and further agreements with those agreements. Most of which completely ignore any true analysis done by other commenters.

Well Ilan, what do you really expect from a bunch of high school seniors who are only commenting for the sake of their grade (with the exception of a few)?
