Protestors outside of Sasha and Mailia's Schools

This morning protestors from the Westboro Baptist Church held anti-gay, anti-abortion and anti-Obma Signs outside of Mailia Obama's middle school. These protestors travel the country demonstrating outside of military funerals and more recently Jewish temples. The chuch is run by Fred Phelps and is extented family and posted a message on the Westboro web page refering to Mailia and Sasha as "satanic spawn" of a "murderous bastard". I think these people are way out of line to protest in front of a middle school to target Obama's children. Keep the children out of things like this. And their comments are compeletly disrespectful and hateful. Even the name of their website is horrible ( i dont even want to type it). The link to the article (not their website) is embedded in the title.

I agree. I think these protesters are way out of line. They should not be disrupting middle school students and trying to make a point by using Obama's daughter. I think they are protesting at the middle school because they think it is going to help their cause, but actually I think it is hurting them. They are not gaining the support of many people by disrupting the peace in a learning environment. These supporters shouldn't even be allowed to go near a school... Why bring innocent kids into this situation. If someone has a problem, they should go protest somewhere else. Maybe with interest groups or policy makers? but definitely not schools.

This makes me want to facepalm at the situation.

Exactly how are Obama's daughters able to directly change policy?

It's more effective to simply protest in front of the White House or maybe even the Capitol.

But of course, it's not just conservatives who targeted children, I remember the liberals scrutinized Palin's children as well.

Regarding this issue, party involvement does not seem relevant. Targeting children on policies such as those listed in such a cruel manner only hurts whatever so-called message they are trying to send.

But it garners attention, which is the point. Would we be talking about these protesters if they had protested in front of the White House?

No.

Does it garner good attention?

No. It's a church; they should know better than to politically target children.

I agree. If protesters are protesting, it seems rather cruel to do it to children. Especially since they are so innocent and clueless to what may be going on. They shouldn't be disrupting school and targeting Obama's children for something that cannot be handled there. It is pointless and the protesters are wasting their time for something so out of line.
