It was announced that Iran's government, Tehran,will expand their nuclear program by building ten new sites to enrich Uranium. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad states that within two months, five nuclear weapons will be made. This announcement came directly following a censure of Iran by the International Atomic Energy Organization over the Islamic Republic's refusal to stop enriching Uranium. White house press secretary said that, if Iran's plan are true, then it "would be yet another serious violation of Iran's clear obligations under multiple U.N. Security Council resolutions and another example of Iran choosing to isolate itself." There have also been signs of growing hostilities toward the west, as Iran's own parliament has asked that President Ahmadinejad reduce ties withe IAEA. This could limit the agency's access to Iran's nuclear sites. Iran, though, only claims to be enriching Uranium for Energy purposes.

If the Iranian President's statement is found to be true then I think it would be a huge shock. THey would be going directly against regulations by the U.N. and other agencies. Also the fact that they are showing increasing hostilities towards the Western powers increases my uneasiness.

This bad news. Nuclear power should not exist or ever be used. Its destructive powers can lead to the end of the world. Why would you risk the world just for some big weapons??
I agree, I am beginning to feel uneasy. If hostilities increase, they could launch nukes at us and end up destroying much of the US. If we retaliate, there will be even more damage. Hopefully, they do not continue to go against UN regulations.
It sounds like we're headed for another Cold War, huh?
I sure hope not. The last thing we need right now is a potential nuclear war, yet I don't see any way that we can really stop Iran. But who's to say who can and can't have nuclear weapons? That always really puzzled me. How come the United States can have weapons of mass destruction but we'll go to war with anyone that potentially has some? (Potentially as in they don't for the Iraq War...) Who's to say that Iran can't have nukes while we can? Are we better than they are? What makes us the "good guys"?

You said both of these in your post, and I saw this in the article. So... which one is it? Does Iran want to make nuclear weapons or use nuclear energy for electricity?

Yuzo, it was told that the iranian president said that they will make 5 nuclear bombs, but it might not necesarrily be true.
But why would they bluff about something like that?
Do they just want the world to hate them or something?

I think this is just ridiculous. Nuclear programs could create problems as how powerful they can be if used as a weapon. I think Iran is doing this out of rebellion to show how they think they could do whatever they want with nuclear programs without international regulations. I believe they should have regulations on Iran and hopefully this issue will get resolved soon.
I agree with Colin. This is very bad news. Already we went into Iraq looking for weapons of mass destruction. We do not need another reason to invade another country. This potentially could lead to a nuclear war, which would be disastrous for all.
To answer Preston's question, I think the U.S. can be trusted more than Iran. The U.S. is very powerful and works with other countries to come up with rules and regulations. Iran it seems is just doing what it wants to do, as shown by them violating the IAEA and the U.N.
Chris, we do have regulations on Iran, that's what all the meetings were for. Just because one has regulations imposed does not mean they will be followed.
Talia, we went into Iraq with a hunch, a mere thought, in essence, that there were WMD. In this scenario, we KNOW they are capable of build WMD's, let alone in the process of doing so. If Iran continues, I fear intervention may be the only way out.
Yuzo, it is hard to decipher the intent of what we might define as a madman. Maybe he's playing Hitler and just slowly grabbing his way to power because of the global community's unwillingness to act, maybe he's just going for a power grab, and who knows, maybe he just wants nuclear weapons to be on the same playing ground as the major powers. Just FYI though, 5 nukes.. we have thousands...
That is super scary. Looking at our international relationship with Iran and its friends, I feel pretty insecure about my life. I dont know what's better..Appeasing them or coming out full force. It seems like hoping to resolve this diplomatically is too naive.
I know I'm going to be flamed for this, but we (the U.S.) should've taken care of Iran a long time ago. Iran does NOT deserve to install uranium enrichment sites. They've already proven that with their approach to the U.N. and especially to the U.S. So, I guess what I'm hinting at is, we (the U.S., Britain, France, Germany, Russia, and China, however I'm not too sure about the last two) need to initiate a joint operation in disposing of those sites. I said "joint" just so that people don't get riled up about "American bullying." They're reckless, ignorant, and flat-out liars. Countries that have the means, the responsibility, AND the honesty deserve to install such sites. The best point of all, why do we (the global community) need to produce nuclear weapons anyway? Haven't we just resorted to conventional or guerilla methods of warfare? It was a rhetorical question. I mean sure the U.S has the highest capacity of nuclear weapons but hasn't anyone noticed that we've been reducing our arsenal, along with Russia, long ago? There have been numerous treaties about this.
If you didn't read the wall, essentially I'm saying Iran doesn't deserve to install these sites because of how they've chosen to present their attitude towards the world and considering they're not even a superpower so ... give me a break.
If we're going to let Iran install sites, why not Somalia?

I agree with Andrew. Iran isn't even a superpower so who says they have the right to violate their own obligation by building even MORE nuclear sites? These issues really should have been handled a long, long time ago.
I also agree with Colin. Nuclear warfare is something I'm extremely worried about.
i personally dont see the point in Iran having nuclear weapons. I also dont see the point in the world having any nuclear weapons but what can we do? I would like to know though if Iran is crazy enough to use those weapons. If they aren't then I now i really don't see why they would need them.
I agree with everyone who has said that Iran + nukes = bad. However, a few people have said that Iran doesn't "deserve" nukes. Personally, I don't think that any nation "deserves" nuclear weapons, which can cause mountains of destruction. Correct me if I'm wrong, but nukes just don't sound like the kind of thing a country can "deserve".
