Microsoft bans roughly 1 million xbox players as they were caught downloading a pirated game. Not only is this an xbox live ban, Microsoft implemented a hardware ban meaning your xbox console will NEVER be able to play xbox live... ever.
I'm sure there are many of you guys out there who play xbox and download pirated games as well. Who doesn't? Just simply uninstall your game and buy the game. If you can't do that, don't play it. Just don't complain to me when you get banned.

I'm actually curious to know the actual number of seniors who pirated a game. I don't own a video game console, so I don't count.
Is it really that hard to buy the game instead of downloading it?
It is hard to give $60 to a company that rips off customers when you can get it easily for free.

Kevin, backing up what Jack said, getting things for free is a huge upside for the pirate. I, for one, have not pirated games, (yet), but I'll be honest and say I have pirated other pieces of software...
I just think it sucks for many who got banned, but I did read stories of many people who were wrongly banned and did not do any modding to their xbox. Then many would not get any support because Microsoft simply said they violated the terms when they did not.
For the people who did mod, I mean think about how much less money they would spend. =O
Chris, seriously. I'm sure those who download pirated games saved much more than 300 dollars. Considering each game costs about 50~65 dollars, downloading 6 games would already match the cost of an xbox. And for those who download pirated games, they can roll through 6 games in a matter of days.
yeah it is definantley a good thing that they did ban it..i mean yeah it may not be a big deal at first but the fines do pay off in the end! I wonder how many were downloaded and i also agree with kevin it shouldnt be that hard to go out and buy the game instead.
It might have been better if there was a way for Microsoft to stop the pirated game from working instead of just Xbox Live. You can easily just create a new profile and start paying from there until MS catches you again.
Most pirated games surfacing the net are usually single player anyway, ie. (They won't let go on battle.net or something because your game isn't legit) or they have some wierd virus/script that keeps crashing your computer.

I only have a wii so i dont know much about this... But for those of you like kevin and sabina who oppose .. I dont think it's a matter of how hard it is to go out an actually buying the game. Songs are super easy to buy. Just a couple clicks online.. Yet songs are downloaded anyway. I think its more of a "i wont get caught" mentality and if I could get it for free, why pay for it?

Ouch this must hurt... The one time my cousin had a modded 360 it got the red rings of death... -sad face- they really screwed up by playing online with it though... even amateurs like I knew that playing online with a pirated CD can and will get you caught and banned... as for now he hasn't had his 360 re-modded to much money for something we don't often play... also to the two who said

Amos and Kevin, Microsoft does more than ban you from Live, they brick your Xbox, you can't just create a new profile because that would require you be able to use your Xbox. Microsoft inserts a hardware ban that stops you from using your Xbox entirely.
Jenny, though that is true, I find it is a little less of that and more "it's free." Back in the day, DRM(Digital Rights Management) was a huge annoyance. As very clearly showed in the xkcd that Sam posted, it's a very annoying thing to deal with. Things downloaded do not have the DRM signature on it so it's not linked to any one person/account. Now, with DRM as a moment of the past, it's because it's free and, in some cases, easier to get. For example, I can torrent an entire album in about 3 minutes if it has good seeds, whereas finding and buying all 13 songs on iTunes is a slow download plus $12.87 out of my pocket.

Yeah, I don't own a 360 so I wouldn't know of this ban.
But what I was talking about was more so of people playing games on internet or pc.
If I ever need some technical advice, I'm going to ask Franklin for it.
