For those of you who are Bay Area Sports Fans who haven't already heard, the Warriors have traded their forward Stephen Jackson to the Charlotte Bobcats. Here is the story. Stephen Jackson, along with Point Guard Acie Law, has been traded to Charlotte Bobcats in exchange for Guard Raja Bell and Forward Vladimir Radmanovic. If you haven't been following the Warriors, Jackson began demanding a trade this past offseason after being frustrated with the Warriors' decline these past two seasons. His demands have gotten so loud that he has gotten into arguments with his coach, fined by the NBA, and even suspended for 2 games during the preseason. Now he's gotten his wish.
Obviously, Jackson has the right to demand a trade if he's not happy with the current situation, but here's what bothers me. Stephen Jackson was named team captain of the Warriors and was their leading scorer last year. If there was anyone who could help bring them out of their decline in the first place, it would have been him. Instead, he goes off and gets traded. Especially for someone who was once a captain, he should have some allegiance to his team and stick it out with them through the tough times. So here are my questions for you guys. Do you agree with Jackson's decision? If you were him what would you do? When things get tough, do you try work it through, or find an escape? Playing in Charlotte will probably turn out to be a better situation for Jackson in terms of playing time and money. As a fan, I admit I am biased on this whole situation, so it'd be nice to see what you guys think.
For those of you following the Warriors, it has been tough watching them these past two years since their playoff run in 2007. Even with Jackson still on the team, it would take A LOT to bring them out of the hole they're in now, but now that Jackson's gone, that hole has only gotten deeper.

Jeez. This is ridiculous. First, the Warriors go and trade Baron Davis to the Clippers. Now, Stephen Jackson has just been traded to the Bobcats. Just the other night, Jackson played very well against the Twolves when the Warriors won by over 40 points. I think Jackson definitely should have stayed with the Warriors for at least a little bit longer. It's still the very beginning of the season. Now that Stephen Jackson is already gone, who knows how the Warriors are going to do now? This really frustrates me. Every time the Warriors receive a talented player on the team, they end up trading that person. How are they ever going to expect to win when they keep trading their top players? SHEEEESH. I guess we'll see how they do without Jackson. Bell isn't too bad.

What is wrong with Jackson? Okay, the guys needs to grow a pair. Just because his team is in a rut, he's running for the hills? If he really wanted to get the Warriors out of this hole, he'd stay and help.
...but then again, I'm biased because I'm a Warriors fan.
In response, to Josh, I don't think the Warriors front office had much of a choice with Stephen Jackson, he demanded a trade and was trouble. That kind of attitude from a player is a poison to the team and isn't a great example for younger players and I think it was the right thing to grant his wish and send him off. His selfishness reminds me very much of Manny Ramirez, the Red Sox had no other choice but to trade him, he basically gave up on the team on purpose, and I wouldn't be surprised if Jackson did the same.
I have to say, from the way you described him, Jackson is acting really immature, which is a way that basketball players, who can become idols to certain people, as role models should not be acting like.
However, I think that if Jackson was upset enough to make that big of a fuss, Jackson had every right to leave the team.

Playing basketball is a career for him, so I think that he had the right to try to get more money and better benefits, the benefit being having a team that performs well and better playing time. I mean I understand that it can be extremely frustrating when your team does not win very often even if you give it your all.
Well, I am not a fan, so I can't tell from the entertainment perspective, but overall, I agree with Jackson's decision, just not with his previous actions.

Stephen Jackson has been nothing but a black hole this whole season.
His sportsmanship and commitment to the team have been an absolute disgrace, to the Warriors, and to professional basketball.
He's proven himself to be both a bad teammate, and a dumb public figure (I mean, who gets himself kicked out of a game with lots of scouts watching--how dumb is that?). His negative attitude is more detrimental to the team than anything, and even his shooting skills (which are often spotty) cannot make up for the negativity he brings on the court. He would lead to more of a decline, rather than helping the Warriors recover.
I think they should trade Ellis as well; he's getting just as big of an ego as Jackson.
He's athletic, but inconsistent and under-achieving. Unless he can get an attitude adjustment, he's going to turn into a big leech on team.
Instead, let guys (as soon as they recover from their injuries) like Wright Azibuike, Biedrins, Morrow, Watson, Maggette, Turiaf, and now, Bell, lead the team. It'll be interesting how Curry turns out as far as heart and attitude; I think a lot will depend on the leadership he is exposed to on the court.
And Josh, Davis and Jackson both wanted to be traded. We don't want players that don't want to be on the team. With a young team, and some real potential talent, I think it's better that the Warriors get rid of Jackson now, maybe have a rebuilding year, than to deal with Jackson later on, especially when he really does not want to play on a team that he thinks has no potential (like Bobcats are going to be any better?)
Sorry for this angry rant. But I think the Warriors are better off without Jackson. Baron, however, is a different story.
If I recall correctly, a lot of the Warriors team members said that Jackson was a distraction despite their curbstomp over the TWolves. The chemistry between he and his team isn't so great, so I think it was a good move to trade him to another team.
The warriors tend to trade their good players away really often. They had Baron Davis, Jamal Crawford, and Gilbert Arenas (agent zero) was on the warriors too.
Jackson is acting immature and I think he doesn't have a good attitude, and I think the warrior's chemistry could improve with him leaving.
Yeah, I think the Warriors started going downhill ever since Jason Richardson left the team. That season was ever so successful with the defeat of the number one seed in the West, Dallas, during the first round of the playoffs. I don't like what's happening with the Warrior's management. Well, at least we can cheer for the Lakers since they're also repping California.
i personally did not like jackson, he was too inconsistent. I admit one game he'd play smashingly well, then the next he play like complete poo. He also gets plenty of technical fouls. i feel that the warriors were right in trading him, but they choose the wrong players to replace him with. THey need new big men.
I totally see where all of you guys are coming from. Haha sorry. After thinking about it again, I agree with you guys that Jackson wasn't a positive factor for the Warriors. Haha I guess I was just bitter that the Warriors keep losing and are disappointing to watch a lot of the times.
I agree with Devin, he was wayyy to inconsistent. All his three pointers are all based on luck. But the warriors are totally reconstructing their team. I dont really like that.
Okay, I think it's a good thing that they finally traded him. I agree with Jodi, I think he should have stepped up into that leadership role when times were more difficult instead of wanting out, but there isn’t much you can do if someone clearly doesn't want to be there.
I feel like Jackson was becoming more of a cancer to the team with his negative attitude, and when situations get like that you need to really think about if their skill is worth keeping their bad attitude around. This is kind of like T.O. in the NFL. I mean he is an amazing wide receiver (although I must say in my opinion a bit past his prime), but is that talent really worth having his ego with it on the team? I say bring in new guys with potential and better attitudes that will keep team morale up, because as a player in a team sport I know how important that is.
I also agree with Josh about how frustrating it's been watching the Warriors these past few years, but hopefully we can get back on track soon.
Ellery I know how you feel about reconstructing the team, unfortunately it appears there are very few other options, clearly what they have isn't working.
