I do yoga, and my mom teaches yoga so I'm normally pretty supportive of it....however my neighbor tried dahn yoga and agreed it was very cult-ish. They made her buy a uniform and do all these funny rituals and were agression when she decided to leave...not your typical yoga!
What your neighbor went through sounds more like martial arts to me.
