Show me the money!

We all remember the constant talks about California's budget deficit, and how the State was cutting programs that it should have left alone. Well, now the Govenator is asking the Federal government for money, claiming "you owe us". He has even gone so far as to try and make the Federal government feel guilty about now giving us money, saying that "state health and welfare programs could be threatened". Then he says that they're going to go and lobby in Washington for the money. Could this sound any sadder?

In a meeting with the state legislature, there was definitely party polarization. Schwarzenegger plans to cut public workers' salaries, prison spending, and health and welfare spending. Republicans thought the plan was a good one (no surprise), but Democrats thought it was basically a load of B.S. I agree. You're not going to get anywhere by taking more money from the people who barely have enough as it is.

This reminded me of the discussion we had in class today about bureaucracies. Mr. Silton mentioned something about trying to make the bureaucracy do what it was originally meant to do by threatening to cut funding and other programs, which was near impossible if it were a necessary program like Social Security. Still, I can't help but wonder why the Governor is suddenly so active in the State Budget. Any ideas?

He's a typical politician.

He's trying to sway the public and he's trying to keep his seat, even though his term is almost over.

He's still the Governator, he's still trying to stay popular and he's still trying to make himself look, laughably, intelligent.

I know it's frustrating, ask ANY school in California. All you can do is look past such inconsistencies. Bureaucracy is FILLED with them.

As far as I know, I think he is fighting for the "Race to the Top" grants. These grants are to sway people to do better, rather than to do worse, which is known as the "Race to the Bottom."

Race to the Bottom is a term to try and make worse the cities in order to drive people out in hopes that the scums will move to another state.

Race to the Top pushes for positive motivation, allowing states to better their education, and ultimately, a better tomorrow.
