New electronic cigarette

A new "smokeless cigarette." This product gives those who smoke a chance to quit smoking with attacking the phycological addiction as well as the health issues. It looks just like a cigarette in almost every way except that it doesn't contain the tar, ash, CO2, flame, and smell that you would find in any cigarette. The e-cigarette doesn't contain all these things as well as some others, but it still contains the nicotine to give smokers their fix of the drug. It will also help with the issue of second hand smoke around other people. The e-cigarette is also legal to "smoke" indoors like restaurants and stores. It doesn't burn tobacco, instead it has a built in vaporizer that produces the "smoke," and they also come in different flavors. Not only is it safer but it is also economical, all you need to do is charge it. If this trend continues, it may be possible to use similar products in rehab to help patients deal with their addictions on other drugs. Overall I think the e-cigarette was an amazing invention to help combat the addictions of nicotine, and I believe it will help save the lives of many people. The only thing I see as an upcoming issue is someone having the manufacturer decrease the battery life of the cigarette so people will have to buy more, and taxes might be raised on it as well (just like regular cigarettes).

I pity those who smoke but at the same time I think this is a very innovative technological advancement. At least it will wean smokers off of cigarettes to some degree. Even though I highly advocate cold-turkey, which is much faster, this is a phenomenal medium.

I'm curious to see if the FDA ends up regulating the e-cigarettes. While they are purported to be less harmful than traditional cigarettes (less tar, CO2, etc), we still have to consider the harmful effects of nicotine. In any case, it seems like these are less harmful as they are reported to contain fewer noxious substances.

I think that this is a great invention to help people quit smoking. However, i wonder if it will help the smokers quit in the longrun...

Many have actually stated that it helped them quit smoking. Some said that after using the e-cigarette, they couldn't stand the smell of cigarettes anymore.

I actually really like this idea, but maybe that's just because I'm very anti-tobacco. Anyways, I think that it's very creative that these people have worked nicotine into this, so the people will actually use this cigarette as a patch. Also, smokers will probably prefer this to patches, since it gives them the feel of a real cigarette. The no second hand smoking also is very beneficial for society. Second hand smoking is much more harmful than smoking a cigarette since there is no filter. Good job, makers of this product.

Honestly, I think that this invention is a better alternative than the original in terms of environmental health and in reducing the number of second hand victims.

But personally, I think that it's one of the stupidest inventions of the 21st century.

This is what you're talking about, right David?

Seriously, I think it's great that people would want to lessen the amount of tobacco and smoke and all that jazz, but in the long run, as Goldie mentioned, I don't believe that it'll do anything to cease nicotine addiction. Especially since, from what I've learned from the site and one of my friends that wanted to try it (to which I became PISSED at...), it seems that you can control the amount of nicotine that goes into each stick. That seems counter-intuitive for addicts who will most likely up the ante each time as their addiction gets further and further out of hand.

Annie,if they can control the amount of nicotine in it,Cant a person who cares about them encourage them to lessen it until there is no nicotine in it and basically just smoke the mist?

Sure, Tim, but who is the one in possession of the e-cig in the first place? Who is the one that will have the FINAL say in how much goes into one stick? Call me a pessimist, a realist, what have you, but if the person isn't 110% DEAD SET no quitting, they're going to up the amount each time and get themselves killed.
