Power and its effects

I found this comic strip quite interesting and made me start thinking about what goes on in the minds of people with some sort of power. As you can see, the king is asked what he would want to be if he wasn't king, and in response he included another form of a high ruling power. People who are given power seem to have a really hard time of letting go of that power to become a "regular" person. I think this goes for just about anyone in society whether they are political or just an employee at a job. An example of this would be a person who gets a promotion at their job and becomes a manager, and then when they want another job they seek the role of being a manager again. The person then never thinks about being anything less than he was at his previous job.

Well, yes.

Everything you posted is true. This is natural, but correctable, human behavior. Just thinking about the interests of the common people you protect and honor can be a bit burdensome to some people, needless to say, they're selfish.

People get into a habit, and have trouble getting out of it so they don't bother changing.

Exactly. A bad habit I should add.

I don't see how this is a "bad habit" of people or anything that we should correct. I see this as a person simply being ambitious.

People in power have the responsibility of guiding the "common people." People typically get promoted because they are good at what they do. I think it is a good thing for people that are good at what they do to stay in a position of power so that the people that have less power can be guided by them.

What if the person in power sucks at his job? Well then that's another story.

That kind of mentality really does show human nature and its making people keep being greedy. However, I guess that behavior is also pretty good in this capitalist society since it does make people work for success (or I guess hope for winning the lottery). Also, the downside of that is in our economic slowing lately, people have to settle for lower paying jobs (if they just got laid off from a higher position). I think that pride makes it hard for people who got deeply affected by the economic crisis last year (or I guess it's still going this year, but not as bad?). We also saw the same thing happen when ENRON failed and its employees with top positions had to support themselves by working low end positions, which was pretty demeaning.

Yuzo, it's a 10 letter word, a noun, and starts with a "c."

Maybe you didn't read the cartoon to which I was referring?

I'm not sure but you missed my point.

Well who wants to be at the bottom and work your way up again? ;/ That's pretty normal although that doesn't apply to the position of a king.
