After months of campaigning and debating, it is finally Election Day. In California, went to the polls with purpose having to decide on several different issues such as experiences, economy, a new governor and the Senate. Also in the mix, strong feelings towards Proposition 19. If passed, this initiative to legalize marijuana.
In regards to the gubernatorial race the most well known candidates include Jerry Brown and businesswomen Meg Whitman, polls are calling Brown the front runner at this point. I guess we will see. Whitman calls herself an outsider who will turn california around. We must step back and examine this for a second. If we look at the current governor, who originally called himself an outsider who would fix California, he hasn't really gotten the state anywhere. He has left us with a large deficit and possibly leaving us worse off than before. Whitman also has a horrible voting record and hasn't voted since 2002. As for Brown, he might be slightly better for California, but who knows. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
As for the propositions, they all seem to be talked about, some more so than others. The big ones on people's minds seems to be Proposition 19, the legalization of marijuana. Proposition 19 would not only legalize marijuana, but also allow local governments to regulate these activities, permit local governments to impose and collect marijuana-related fees and taxes, and authorize various criminal and civil penalties.
Another hot-button issue on today's California ballot is the Senate race. The top contenders are Barbara Boxer and Carly Fiorina, a former CEO. Most would argue that while Fiorina is an outsider, Boxer has more experience since she currently serves in the Senate.
We must not forget about the other states. Other hot-button races include the Miller V. Murkowski Senate race in Alaska, Tea Party candidate Christine O'Donnell to represent Delaware in the Senate. Ther are numerous races that I could mention, but we would be here for days.
Anyway, What are your opinions?
