Oakland's Response to the Mehserle Verdict

I come home literally 5 minutes ago, turned on the 11 o' clock news.... oh snapp...

Protesters took to the streets moments after former police officer Johannes Mehserle was sentenced to 2 years in prison for the 2009 killing of Oscar Grant.

Just as many did when Mehserle was convicted, several storefronts and government buildings, including city hall, closed early and boarded up the windows.
At first it was a peaceful protest, with people venting anger, sadness, and frustration. The demonstration ended without problems. But after it ended, violence erupted. About several hundred protesters marched towards the BART station where Oscar Grant was shot. An officer had his gun stolen from his holster and pointed back at him. A protestor was hit by a car. Property destruction was spread. Oakland police would later contain the situation and arrested 150+ people.

My question is though, when we all finish with the sentencing, the frustration, anger, tears, and demonstrations, what's going to happen to the Grant's family, and what's going to happen to Mehserle?
