Attack on South Korea

The attack on South Korea was truly devastating and by now, I hope, you are all familiar with it. Hundreds of South Korean citizens were evacuated, 22 buildings were damaged from the attack, 4 men were killed and 15 injured.

After the incident, President Obama attended an emergency session to discuss his options. It was eventually decided that the aircraft carrier George Washington and a number of supporting ships would be sent into the region to halt further attacks on either nation.

Now the world is waiting to see what will happen next. Will this turn into a bloodshed or will this tension between rival nations eventually die down? Will
America become involved or will we sit this one out? What do you guys think?

I hope this situation doesn't escalate into further violence. The North Korean/South Korean relations need to hold and remain strong. The risk of war is too great.

This is a very confusing topic because i was watching a video earlier that said South Korea said these bombings were just tests and that no on one or anything was hurt. After hearing this i am guessing that people were hurt and things were damaged. This incident needs to be put under control and someone needs needs to make sure nothing more happens. I know America does not want a nuclear war and i hope that Korea doesn't. No nation should have intentions of hurting someone because of resentment and hate. If a nation has a leader that is like that they have a poor leader. Kore needs to see that if they start a war they will lose many of their inhabitants and isn't it better to just not have a war and keep your people. Be happy with what you have don't get the idea that you needs to e on top of the world by destroying. I feel Obama needs to help and make sure we don't come to any war especially a war involving nuclear weapons.

This reminds of the Vietnam War and America role in this is not being a babysitter, even though I know we kind of are. What does America get out of sending military over to possibly get us into even more debt and more issues we really do not need. Although people feel badly and want to help and protect all countries who pays for it...the UN?? or the US tax payers?? Because I do not want to pay more money into the United States' medling. We are in severe debt and have tons of homeless people and kids going hungry.

Though the idealistic and pacifist side of me hopes the North Korea-South Korea conflict will not get worse, the pessimist side of me strongly believes that tensions will not improve any time soon, and at its worst, the conflict could turn into an international crisis, especially if the U.S. intervenes or gets involved in any way. Personally, I want the U.S. to stay out of it, other than issuing warnings to North Korea (which it has), unless it successfully leads them to peaceful diplomatic talks. However, I find this very unlikely because of the long history of tensions between the two countries and the U.S.’s alliance with South Korea, and I think the U.S., as a global leader, will feel even more obligated to get involved because South Korea needs help right now, especially since South Korea’s defense chief resigned after the attacks. I am also nervous about how surrounding countries will react to this conflict; I already know that Japan has activated emergency communications with the White House. More than anything, I hope the violence does not escalate, but from what I know, I think further military conflict is inevitable.

I really hope this situation doesn't turn into something more serious. Hopefully North Korea and South Korea are able to set aside differences or else more people are going to get hurt. A war that could have been avoided can also erupt because of this incident. A part of me thinks the US should stay away from this but another part thinks the US should help South Korea in case North Korea decides to take over. Even if a war erupts, hopefully China doesn't get involved and join the North Korean side!

this makes me nervous, in a previous comment on a similar blog post, i mentioned that as high school seniors... at least the fellas... we all going to be 18 pretty soon and registering for the draft.

Since I am already 18, i have to go register for the draft pretty soon.....

Other than that, S korea and N korea have at this cease fire thing for decades now... something was bound to give eventually

according to an article i had just recently read, U.S. forces have been sent to the Korean Peninsula for naval exercises...

breaking the situation down
North Korea is feeling provoked, China's "unsettled", South Korea is stepping up, and the U.S. is worried and taking action

I was not surprised when I saw this on the news. I think everyone knew it was going to happend, the question was when. Kim Jong Un is known in North Korea as a "master" of military strategy and this attack is thought to be a "showing" of his "genius." I don't think that South Korea will declare war on North Korea due to specific ties with the rest of East Asia and the US but I would like to see them take an aggressive stance against North Korea. I think that it is inevitable that the US will be involved because it is definitely allied with South Korea and Japan. Even though I do not want the US to get involved with East Asian problems, I think it is necessary.
