Is BipartisanSHIP but a relic of a distant past?

The Republicans were generously rewarded for a dysfunctional (or deliberate, take your pick) 111th Congress in the recent midterm elections. Nonetheless, much of recent Republican rhetoric has hinged on the party's unwillingness to compromise with the Democrats in Congress. How do you feel about the prospective 112th Congress? Is it destined for even more gridlock than we already have? Or will we make any strides in resurrecting the bipartisanship that our nation so desperately needs?

Current indications are bleak, but I truly do hope that we don't have more START fiascoes in our near future.

Also, Stewart's brilliant analogies never fail to amaze me. I'm sure that the following video will be well worth your time: http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-november-17-2010/-adult-spin-

Love the picture...it is quite annoying that compromise seems to be a thing of the past. I may just appear to be acting like another biased liberal Aragonian, but the fact that many Republicans have been consistently bashing down bills and tabling debate for the sake of tabling debate annoys me extremely. This picture clearly demonstrates how static Congress is.

Unfortunately, I believe the 112th congress will only be more partisan than the preceding one. All I see ahead is gridlock after gridlock after gridlock. Its going to be particularly hard to get things done in the next two years.

Amrit I dont know if you'll respond since its the end of the blog week, but do you mind explaining what START fiascoes are? (I googled it, but nothing came up)

I agree with Danielle. First of all, gridlock will occur one after the other and what will end up happening is that this next Congressional period will be a bunch of rich people sitting around essentually reaching no verdicts on legislation since a few people will be in refusal to let their grips loosen...I believe that compromise is what started this country and we should have our leaders and elected individuals compromise when needed to make law - making more efficient! The less efficient work being done, the more our country will stay in this mess that we are in...Republicans and Democrats don't have to see eye to eye, but at least should be willing to listen quietly, because otherwise it's pretty much just a group of misfit politicians who happen to be in position to make change but are so concerned with minor details and differences in parties that they refuse to give in!

Politics is just a game now. There's no such thing as Bi-partisanship anymore. This is the reason we have not seen the "change" that Obama has promised us.
