Obama: Just how much has he accomplished?

Apparently conservatives aren't the only Americans angry at Obama recently. More and more liberals are accusing Obama of betraying them by stalling on the progressive agenda they elected him to enact. Pro-choice opponents are upset that the Democratic health-care legislation won't include federal abortion funding for the poor. Immigration rights groups remind the president to "live up to past pledges to tackle comprehensive reform". Gay activists are also upset that Obama hasn't overturned the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. Civil libertarians are angry that he's carrying on the Bush administration's policy on detaining suspected terrorists without charge or trial. Anti-war crusaders are outraged that he's weighing a troop increase in Afghanistan. And the list goes on...

On the other hand, Obama did accomplish a lot in just 9 months. For example, his stimulus bill- including renewable energy, mass transit, and money for college tuition- was a very important piece of legislation. Many other presidents have been trying to get as far as Obama has regarding his health-care package.

What do you think on his performance in the past 9 months?

To be honest, the guy has overburdened himself and overstretched his goals, and now he is struggling to get them accomplished. Sure he's getting some things done, but he's not living up to his innumerable promises.

I don't think Obama is completely at fault for this. Sure, it may seem like he has overburdened himself with many tasks. But he is also trying his best to keep his promises and fix up the economy. He may not be able to accomplish these goals all at once. But I think he can fulfill them in the near future. Also, I'm pretty sure Obama would know his limits and not try to outstretch anything knowing how the economy is right now.

In less than four years? I don't think so.

Right now, the biggest issue seems to be either healthcare or the economy. The enviroment is probably next on the list, and his promises to withdraw troops from Iraq doesn't seem to be getting attention at the moment. And of course, other less important issues, such as Guantanamo, isn't really appearing in the news at all recently.

To be honest Obama has set to high of goals for himself and now it is a threat on his shoulders.Loved and respected by everyone yes that is true but he cant accomplish anything if he has to many things going all at one. Two outcomes: one he either suceeds his goals and they are failure or they arent accomplished and people are mad. Not good!

Mona your blogging skills are legit! But for real Kevin I kind of feel like he definitely took on a lot, which I respect more power to him. However, I also feel like we idealized him in this superman sense like he was gonna swoop up the country in distress and save us from everything instantly. I think it was good that he hyped us all up with all of his promises and made the country all optimistic and what not, I just hope that we can have a little more faith that time will bring the changes we have trusted him to make. However, I also think it is smart to put pressure on him to keep him in line with his original suggestions. While his performace might seem slow, nine months only makes one baby... poppin out like 20 reforms in such a time would be like requiring a time slot on tlc. and then end badly... john and kate plus 8 anyone? ok cool. point proven. sup.

It seems as though you have not been paying attention to the news lately. With so much attention towards healthcare, it's hard to ignore people who hate Obama for changing healthcare.

Why do you worship Obama?

"but he cant accomplish anything if he has to many things going all at one."

And who's fault is that for campaigning on so many grounds?

"However, I also feel like we idealized him in this superman sense like he was gonna swoop up the country in distress and save us from everything instantly."

No kidding. That's how he won the election - he sold himself off as superman.

"While his performace might seem slow, nine months only makes one baby... poppin out like 20 reforms in such a time"

Ha,ha,ha, good comparison. Right, so if he takes that much time to accomplish a single goal, and he has entire to-do list, do you expect him to accomplish all of that in less than four years?

I think Obama has done not too bad of a job. Even before he became elected, the country put him on a pedestal. Sure Obama has made too many goals and it seems he isn't accomplishing anything but he's still gotten some things done. It's just that he has made too many goals and they completely overshadow his accomplishments.

Well, not everyone absorbs themselves in the news every single waking minute of the day.

Maybe she "worships" Obama merely because his presidency became a great transition in the history of the United States? Oh, I dunno. I think being the first African American president is kind of a big deal.
