Terror in Colombia

I was shocked when I read this article, because it really reveals some of the horrors in this world. In Medellin, Colombia, there is constant gang violence and drug wars. In this particular article, there is an interview that involves two Hit-men, Red and C. There is much corruption in Columbia, and especially in Medellin, where even politicians are hiring Hit-men to rid their opponents.

According to the two men, Red and C, there is much chaos in their neighborhoods in Medellin, since authorities have locked up many gang lords so now there is a lot of chaos. Many drug wars have been fought and many people killed. Recently, in August, Samir Romero, someone who is apparently in these wars, was shot thirteen times. This caused a lot of grief for his relatives and you can see the anguish in the photos.

According to the interviews, the two Hit-men have the support of their neighborhood who they deliver food, probably provided by the drug lords of the area. They see it as a "kill or be killed" situation that is very hard to leave. They can either wind up in jail or end up dead in the streets. The authorities also have a huge problem catching all the drug lords, since more people will replace the jailed criminals. With Colombia's neighborhoods falling into poverty, more and more people are drawn into this chaos, and according to the C, one of the Hit-men, this chaos doesn't seem to have an end.

Oh yeah I read about this when I was searching for a new topic to write about.
Apparently those hitmen did freak out after their first hit, but consecutive hits seemed to have desensitized them.

There is alot of gang action in the latin communities. Not Just Colombia. When I went to mexico last year a week befor i got there a man was killed his head was cut off and hung in the town square to set an example of him. No one would take the head down because of the fear that they would be killed as well. The next encounter that i had was the keeper of the house that i was at her husband and son were murderd for over a horse. The crime thats going on is devestating and its all over the latin world even in America. I Just dont understand why people can kill and not feel what the do is wrong

I can't believe my friend's mom would take him away from here, and back to that kind of environment.

I knew it was bad, but i didn't think it this bad.

I have heard of many incidents like these, especially in south america with Brazil and snippings, along with cuba and colombia having famous drug wars, and it is scary thinking about things like what if I was one of those people just living in the middle of that. thankfully, I had never experienced things like that, and hopefully I never will have to experience things like that.

As unfortunate as this is, it is fairly common in Central and South America, and things are only looking worse now with the world's struggling economy. We learn about situations like this every week in AP Spanish, and I know first hand my family members in Argentina are fighting for jobs.

It is sad how corrupted parts of the world are, and how much we take for granted living in a relatively safe place.
