The stupendous legacy of Norman Borlaug

I mentioned Normal Borlaug in my last post and suddenly was consumed with the neeed to follow up about him. He was an agricultural scientist who worked for his entire life to improve strains of wheat and other staple crops in undeveloped countries to combat starvation.
This YouTube video from a TV show called "B.S.!" gives a great explanation of Norman Borlaug's life and works. The show is devoted to debunking myths, and the episode in which this clip aired is about those who advocate against genetically modified crops (in case you were wondering why they're making fun of those mask-clad dudes in front of the store). I hope you enjoy the clip; it's very well put together and incredibly inspiring. The man was passionate, innovative and brilliant. He leaves an enduring legacy in the world.

Advisory warning: clip contains swearing! Penn and Teller, the hosts of the show, are pretty vehement about what they discuss, which is often reflected in their language. Just don't want anybody to be shocked!

I agree Ari; the video was incredibly inspiring (and at times, comical). However, I also found it somewhat irritating, watching the opponents of the GM crops discourage the use of them, but to not offer any solution to the world-hunger problem. The actions of Greenpeace in Zambia were almost infuriating, especially considering the poverty and hunger that the people must face. It's sad that organizations working against GMs cost other people their lives and undermine the great work of Norman Borlaug.
Dr. Borlaug has done the world a great service, and his actions will contribute to hopefully ending the hunger crisis that our world faces. Thanks for enlightening me about a wonderful person.
