Obama Keeps on Fundraising

Today as I was skimming the headlines looking for something interesting to post, I came across an article talking about how Obama is trying to raise more money for the Democratic party. The link to the article is in the title.

It just so happened that we talked about campaign financing in class today.

Anyway, just felt like sharing that little story.

Is there an advantage to fundraising right now? To me it seems foolish to be working on your party issues when the United States is debating health care reform and is battling a recession.

also I heard some news reporters commenting on the fact that a bunch of the people donating money at the fundraiser Obama attented were people who the Obama administration just got mad at for getting bonuses (after recievinv bail out money) and such. a little ironic.

"The party in power typically loses congressional seats in the first election of a president's term. Obama certainly wants to avoid the fate of Bill Clinton, who similarly swept into office with youthful energy only to see his party lose control of Congress two years later."
I'm thinking that Obama probably is raising money for his party so that he can avoid this, hoping when the finalized health care reform bill is ready to be voted on, there will still be as many democratic seats in the legislature as now so that his bill would pass. I guess it's kinda a smart move, but it's a bit uncertain as how successful it will be. The article makes some really good points about how last year success had much to do about the anti-Bush feelings and how there was a much more clear purpose last year.
