Palin? Who's that? Oh yea...I remember her...

Well, I'm sure you all remember Sarah Palin, McCain's vice presidential candidate. I'm sure we all remember the shock when it was announced that McCain had selected her out of all the possible choices, and the mockery that ensued. Well, I recently found a copy of her resignation speech that she gave when she quit her job as governor of Alaska. Here's what the editors of Vanity Fair thought of her speech and what changes they would have made.

Ouch, Sarah Palin. I think that name can be used as an adjective now.

From the news recently, and I believe there were a few blog posts about this, Palin is really starting to shape up. She is starting to act like she actually knows something, and from the rumors she might even be running for presidency in 2012. At this moment in time, there is no solidified conclusion, but I think this should be quite interesting. I'll be in college when 2012 comes around, so I should have a lot to say then.

There are countless sites talking about Palin and 2012, here are some to name a few.

Hey! I showed you this!

But yeah it was pretty funny, good thing we didn't up with a vice president that can't even write a proper speech.

I really do not see what this proves other than people have different styles. If we go with the premise that a person's speech is bad just because some editors from Vanity Fair did not like the specific way in which it was written, then it follows that since the three editors ended up crossing out each other's modifications sometimes, then those editors themselves do not know how to write proper speeches, in which case judging the quality of a person's speech by the presence of modifications made by people whose own speechwriting skills can be called into question is simply ridiculous.

Pick any speech and give it to three different editors; no matter how good it is, they can always find things to "fix."

Francis, yes many speech editors have their own styles, and through editing Palin's speech, we can see this. So not all speeches are perfect, but I think the point is that Palin has a very inefficient resignation speech. As you can see, the red mark crosses out almost half of her speech. It does not seem like the other two editors disagree.

I don't know, maybe I'm just missing the point.

That's a lot of red. (And blue and green.)
