Finally a NEW health care bill?

Now i may be wrong, but it seems that the many of the House liberals are now ready to accept a compromise health care bill, which is what the Democratic leaders have wanted. Liberals have argued that the previously proposed bill was weak.

"Leaders from the Progressive, Black, Hispanic and Asian-Pacific American caucuses met at the White House Thursday evening with Obama, who listened to their concerns and praised their efforts. "He looked at us and he said, 'You guys ought to be walking around like you won because you brought back the public option,'" said Rep. Mike Honda, D-Calif."

Talks (more like debates) about this public option will begin sometime next week over issues like how it will cover about 96% of Americans. Included in this bill is a plan that would pay hospitals and providers rates that are negotiated by the Health and Human Services secretary. Still moderates have their cocerns about the bill's cost($1.055 trillion over 10yrs) and how the rates would effect hospitals and other providers . Also, the "long term spending implications and disputes to be resolved on how to block federal funding of abortions and prevent illegal immigrants from getting taxpayer-funded care". The fear of how the new version of this government-run plan will work with whatever the Senate passes worries the House liberals.

The one question that i have regarding this public option is whose going to pay for this if not many Americans who arent insured or who fall into the low income category back out from getting this supposedly affordable health care?

Who is going to pay the 1 trillion? Everyone. Yay taxes.

Wrong

"Yay taxes."

Yay cutting the deficit by 100 billion and providing health care to 96% of Americans.

They are gonna enact a 1 trillion dollar healthcare and reduce the deficity by 100 billion. I'm not sure you know how this works Jack. You seem to be very over idealistic concerning this government and it's doings.

I'm not sure YOU know how this works.

Here are the numbers:

The House bill costs $894 Billion, not $1 trillion, reduces the deficit, not the deficity, by $104 billion over 10 years, and reduces the number of uninsured by 36 million.

From the webpage you posted Jack:

"Among other things, H.R. 3962 would ... impose an income tax surcharge on high-income individuals"

So there are going to be taxes. Not everyone is going to have new taxes imposed on them, but the House bill will implement some new taxes.

You're right Francis, but what Anders said was: "Who is going to pay the 1 trillion? Everyone." That is wrong. Only high income individuals and those affected by the excise tax will have their taxes raised by this bill.

i agree with the question but who wouldn't want healthcare for 96% of Americans even if it would cost us more than a $1 trillion dollars. personally i just say pass the bill.

Jack, i get what your saying and agree with you and Francis but what I THINK Anders was saying is that although only higher income individuals and those affected by this bill will see their taxes increase, sooner or later everyone will eventually pay for it through some other form of taxes. but i may be wrong..
