Another shlog for the day. Obama signs first major federal gay-rights legislation, the Matthew Shepard Act. The new law added gays, bisexuals, transgenders and lesbians to the list of federal hate crimes. That is pretty much it. If your interested in learning more about what led up to it and more details, here is the link.

Interesting post. It is good to know that America is moving toward this way. Although I do not believe in that kind of stuff, it is important to accept those who believe in it.
I think it is good that there is finally a legislation for gay rights. Like Yoda said, it's great to know that America is finally progressing.
I agree, it is great how America is progressing. Evethough is personally disagree with this law, I believe that others who believe in it should be given a chance.
This link was really helpful.
I think this is a really big deal and step towards the right direction for America. I also like that this law is also kind of a tribute to the late Senator Ted Kennedy who was pushing for its passing before his death. Hopefully this will lead to more progressive thinking and the repeal of the Don't Ask, Don't Tell military policy and Defense of Marriage Act, which would legitimize same sex marriages in states that allow them.
Wow, I'm surprised that this kind of a law was not already in place. I remember that the Mathew Shepard hate crime occurred sometime in the 90s. Well, better late than never I guess.

This is good news i believe. America has had a history of bad behavior against groups like gays, and bisexuals. Just last year, a propisition was passed taht did not allow gays to marry.
This is good because it sort of shows taht america is changing in a good direction. Bad behavior to groups liek these has been a dark part of american history.
It's about time. The fact that it has taken this much time to get a law like this passed is a disgrace, just like prop 8's passage was a disgrace. At least we're moving towards that promise of "liberty and justice for all" that we've all repeated since kindergarten.
This is great! This should have been done a long time ago. I think this is such a big deal, we are for sure moving in the right direction! Go Obama!
