Here's a picture, courtesy of Talking Points Memo, that illustrates how Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's staff is reacting to the Democrat's proposal to sell Medicare insurance to people that are 55-64 years of age.

All they are doing is trying to kill the new Healthcare proposal by villainizing it in any way possible. It doesn't have to make sense or be consistent as long as it gets more people to turn against it on false principal.

I don't really have much to say on this particular case of Flip-Flopping, but I do want to raise the question "why is flip-flopping a bad thing?"
I'm a flip-flopper, and it's something I'm proud of. If I'm beaten in a logical argument, I'll concede defeat and admit that my opponent is right. Why isn't this an admirable trait? Why would we want the country to be run by anything other than rational people? Rationalists won't stick with a bad idea just to appear consistent with former views, they'll revise their beliefs so as to make them more sound from a given premise.
Maybe I'm being an idiot, but the majority of the American population (as I understand it) looks down on flip-flopping. It isn't always, but can be the equivalent of saying "ooh, a rational thinker! We better keep him out of office."
