Gingrich supports Obama's "political courage"

Newt Gingrich, yes the same Newt Gingrich as the one in the People and the Power Game that we watched today commended Obama for his "political courage" in regards to Afghanistan. The former Speaker of the House said that sending 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan was the right thing to do and stated that the president was "facing reality". Though Gingrich praised Obama for being courageous enough to possibly split his party when he stated he wanted 30,000 more troops in Afghanistan, Gingrich was also honest when he said that Obama's plan of withdrawing troops from Afghanistan in mid-2011 was unrealistic. Gingrich predicted that in 2012, there would still be American troops in Afghanistan.

I find it interesting that this relates to my earlier blog about some Marines' opinion toward Obama's proposed troop surge. Gingrich reacted much like many of the Marines as well as similar to my opinion. The Marines in the aforementioned article were also skeptical that Obama could start pulling troops out in 2011, or that it might not be such a good idea. However, relating back to Gingrich, I think that it is great that Gingrich, though he is a Republican, praises Obama for his courageousness in taking control of the Afghanistan war. I think that this may be a step towards depolarizing political beliefs. Which is good.
