What do students at Harvard think about The Social Network?

An advance screening in Harvard Square was given to a select group of students in order to find out how current students at Harvard would react to "The Social Network". The movie got mixed reviews from the Harvard students. One student feels that the film inaccurately made drugs, alcohol, and sex all look awesome while also making all the female students look like "flawless models" and all the male students look like "stacked Abercrombie & Fitch model types". She did give credit to the fact that the film somewhat portrays the campus atmosphere and also the smaller details of the student experience like staying up ridiculously late online. Another student loved the fact that the film was right on point. He felt that; "They depict Harvard for what it really is -- it's not some stupid prep school with kids in corduroy jackets. In the film, final clubs are a metaphor for exclusivity, and to an extent that's what they really are about -- privacy." He said it was also fun to watch because he could tell when scenes were actually filmed on campus. Since I haven't seen the movie yet I cant say much, but I find it interesting that the film received opposite reviews from students that attend Harvard at the same time.

Like any movie, there are always people who love it and others who hate it. I havent watched the movie either but i know everyone's college experince is different, just like how evryone's high school experience is different. And depending on if you were a party student or a gunho hard worker, you will have different opinion on the accuracy of the movie/ depiction of Harvard.

I watched the The Social Network yesterday night and thought it was a very good movie. The story and characters behind Facebook is so interesting and not what I was expecting it to be. When many of us think of Harvard, we think of Einstein types sitting in a library and studying. The film depicted Harvard as being like any other American college. The movie showed that Harvard isn't just filled with bookworms but also, like any other school, is filled with party animals, ego filled fraternity brothers, artsy types, etc. I think the movie depicted that not every kid who got a 2400 on their SAT (like Mark Zuckerberg)is a so called "nerd".

I haven't seen the film and to be honest I'm not up for watching it for anything. I feel like the movie makers and everyone involved with the movie are making it try to look like the Facebook movie. But I get a feeling that it isn't because, most of it does not really relate to how facebook got started, but just an interpretation of how it maybe started. It lets us see how college is like-but is it really like that in everyone's mind-like Jasmine said "it depends" on the student. So I feel like Socail Network is it's own movie not a movie based on true facts.

I haven't watched the movie yet, but I'm dying to see it!! I really want to know how Facebook was invented and the whole story behind who actually created it. I think it'll be an interesting film to watch. Of course it got mixed reviews, because we all think differently of how the films turn out once we watch them.
