Obama on the Daily Show

So while watching Comedy Central in between my multiple events this weekend, I saw a commercial promoting Obama's appearance on the Daily Show with John Stewart this Wednesday.

To be honest at first I was shocked. It seemed to me that Mr. Obama had better things to do as our President then be on a comedic and "fake" news show.

But after thinking about it more I realized that going on to the Daily Show may not be the worst of moves. I mean really it couldn't be any worse then having Town Hall meetings on MTV or appearing on Mythbusters to promote educational subjects.

In fact the Daily Show and its counter part the Colbert Report are no more "fake" or misleading then any other news show on CNN or Fox News. It also might be smart for Obama to appear on this kind of show to speak to a new set of the population. Anyways, the only risk he is really taking in his appearance is well getting skewered by John Stewart.

What do you all think is this a wise move by the president or is it just another way to increase his celebrity status? We'll see on Wednesday I guess.

He's going on the show to promote Colbert's/Stewart's rally because he supports it. And i don't believe he has to be on the job 100% of the time; he should be allowed to push his agenda and get people to go out and vote/ go to the rally. And i doubt Stewart will skewer Obama; Stewart has liberal beliefs and why would he skewer someone that supports his rally.

I think Obama's move is acceptable. As long as Obama uses his appearances to push a message, I think that he has the prerogative to utilize any medium. However, I think that the President must stay professional (but not necessarily uptight) at all times, since he is the leader of the country.

I believe it is actually a good move for Obama. First of all, he needs to appeal to all people, and some people who don't watch too much politics or serious news stories, but who do watch Stewart's show may get a dose of politics in this way. It also reveals Obama to be versatile and not so stressed/snobby politician but makes him appeal as a "good kind of guy" who maybe will possibly cause others to feel more relatable to politics

It's all very wonderful that the president gets to go onto multiple TV shows in order to spread his propaganda, maybe even get the Democrats a few more votes in the mid-term election. If only he were as dedicated to helping the economy instead of going on frivolous escapades throughout the media.

I really see no problem with Obama being on the Daily Show. After all, it is his decision, and like you said, it has just as much authority as other news stations, probably more if you consider Fox News. And besides, it's not like it's the Playboy magazine.

Also, even if it is a way to increase his celebrity status, that in itself may be better for our government as a whole. If people have a better view of Obama, perhaps the Congress would be more willing to listen to him. Seeing as Congress is mostly dysfunctional right now, we need a leader that Congress can follow.

I feel like Obama's going on every tv show. A few weeks ago someone made a blog about him going on mtv; follow up anyone?

Obama on the Daily Show is like a time when you see someone really important on a tv show that says a lot of crude humor about people. It gives you that feeling inside of expecting something hilariously wrong to be said, which is bad because the target of discussion would be Obama. His appearances on tv shows gives a positive appeal to me. It's a good way to reach out to the public (the part of the public that watches comedy central)

I think this is a good move for Obama in the sense that he can spread his popularity among the nation. Like Alex said, not all of us watch political news all the time, and this would show that Obama isn't just the typical politician type of guy who sticks to just going on "serious" shows to talk only about politics. Like Roslee said, I don't think it could get worse than him making an appearance on MTV!!! Let's sure hope it's not a worse move than MTV. Fingers crossed.
