"Obama wants blackberry and kids who do chores"
Hmmmm. I am taking the time to post this because I happen to find it amusing. Apparently, Obama has been arguing with his staff, insisting on finding a way to keep his Blackberry as the President because it is essential to his ability to conduct business...rather like teenagers an thier cell phones....does this mean our President to be is organized and careful, or overdependent on technology like the rest of us. In addition, he has claimed that his two daughters are going to be raised without special treatment and are going to be "Special only to their parents." On her last visit to the White House, Michelle Obama reportedly asked the White House staff to nix the maid service on the girls, who will be responsible for making their beds and cleaning up after themselves. There is no information as to if she requested the same lack of sevice for herself and her husband. Do you think she did? Just a little light-hearted blogging in the spirit of the holiday weekend. Gobble Gobble.

Compared to the past everybody is dependent on technology, so we shouldn't be to critical about the president wanting to keep his phone, I mean if it helps him keep organized then it might be a good thing.
As for the chores for his kids, I think Michelle just wants to raise their kids as something other then presidents daughters.
Would you want the president to worry about the country or the cleanliness of his bedroom, the maid service for them is probably still ther.
The staff wants Obama to stop using his Blackberry because of the security reasons, so I think he should stop using it. I also think that Michelle Obama asking the staff to not give maid service to the children is a good thing because it will keep them from being spoiled and will teach them responsibility while they are growing up.
I think that if Obama's staff asks him not to use his Blackberry, there is a good reason for it, and as leader of our country, he should do what's best and sacrifice his Blackberry. I mean really, it's just a phone. Big deal. It's a little silly that he'd be so insistent on keeping his cell phone, and it is increasingly apparent that technology has a lot of influence on our lives.
I do commend Michelle on asking that the children don't receive maid service. I think it is a good thing that she wants her kids to be normal and treated like everyone else. I think it shows good parenting, because she is trying to teach her children responsibility rather than let them have whatever they want.
Looks to me that Obama is just trying to stay a good father and teach his kids responsibility and what hard work is. Making your bed and cleaning up after yourself isn't anything unusual anyway.
The Blackberry problem probably has to do with the fact that consumer electronics don't have the quality or quantity of security features required for use by the President.
Also, if you are just starting to think that some of us are becoming too dependent on technology, you probably don't notice much. Everything around you is there because of technology. But if you are referring to electronics when you say technology, I don't want my President living in the stone age, he has to be able to stay informed and accessable, which is only possible today with the use of modern electronics.
I think Michelle Obama asked the maid service not to do the girls' chores because she doesn't want them growing up spoiled. After all their dad can only be President for eight years at most so that service will not always be there. As for the blackberry; I'm sure Obama's staff has good reason for him to stop using it and I think he should listen to it a little bit more before choosing to ignore them.
I think it is Ok to have a president who is dependent on technology. I mean, who isn't dependent on technology?
I'd rather have a president that is addicted to the Blackberry than a president who can't use a computer (McCain?).
Life would cease to exist without technology.
Also, It's really intersting that Obama's daughters are "going to be raised without special treatment". That says alot about Obama. Children these days are very spoiled, especially the rich kids. It's good to hear that there are still parents out there who don't want to spoonfeed their children...
I think that it is a good idea for Obama to no longer keep his Blackberry because in the end, safety is the most important thing. On the other hand, he is still human and in today's society, practically everyone is addicted to electronics, whether it be their ipod or Blackberry, so you can't really judge him. Also, regarding the Obama girls, I think it's a good idea. Children need to learn that people won't always be there to clean up after them, even if there father is the President.
I think Obama wants to keep his blackberry with him because he both needs it to keep organized and because he is dependent on technology. Blackberries are bascially like mini virtual planners. I would understand why Obama would need it. I assume it would have his whole agenda on there. birthdays and everything. You've got to admit, entering everything into your blackberry is so much easier than writing everything out in a planner.
As for not treating his kids like they're anything special, I think that is a great idea and a strong parenting skill. I would'nt want to spoil my kids, whether I was president or not. Its good that he has his children make thier own beds and clean after themselves because they'll eventually have to learn how to.
I think Obama is using technology to his advantage for example he sent out emails to his supporters during his campaigning asking for suggestions and keeping them posted which is a great way to keep his supporters interested in what he has to say and so I would think his blackberry is very important to him for how he does business and I do not blame him for wanting to keep it around. And if everyone were to criticize him for that then they should criticize themselves because everyone in this century seems to be dependent on technology.
technology was huge in helping him win. I don't see why not just keep the blackberry... If I had a blackberry, I'd probably want to keep it too. :P
I doubt he's overdependent on technology, considering how he can just have his staff plan everything for him. Who needs to have a blackberry when you have tons of people to use the technology for you? I think he just wants to keep a bit of control over his own activities. Or maybe he's just attached to the thing...maybe it helped him alot in his life / on the prez.campaign?
I highly doubt that she will be cleaning her own room, but you never know. And as for the Blackberry - it is just a phone. If you have to give up your phone to be president, give up the damn phone! And as crazy as it may sound, a blackberry phone can be a security issue. My dad works at Lawrence Livermore National Labratory and his choice of phones was severely limited due to the many classified things that go on in the lab. Just recently they allowed him to have a phone with a camera, but he still has to turn it off while in the lab. Now if my dad couldn't have a picture phone, it's no wonder that the President can't have a blackberry in his pocket while sitting in the Oval Office...
That's ridiculous, why would they not let him keep his phone?!?!
Hey hey, cell phones helped him win presidency. Let him keep his :) As long as it's not his primary phone, he should be able to use it for personal calls to family/friends, or to keep a calendar on.
I think it's really great that they still want to continue to be good parents, teaching their kids how to take care of themselves. They're still at a young age, and if they grow up thinking that other people will always clean up their messes, they will become spoiled. They're still kids. Just because their father is about to be the most powerful man in the world doesn't mean their lives should be so drastically altered. However, Barack & Michelle Obama obviously need maid service... they're going to have their hands full...running the country and protecting our lives. And besides, they've already learned how to make their beds! :)
President Obama is trying to proyect a humble image. The way in which he expresses makes us feel closer. He is just another guy. A blackberry, oh no, what a problem, come on. He is the president of the most powerful country in the world.
On the future fist lady's action about her daughters, i think it's great. She is a disciplinarian, and seems to be a strong woman. I am anxious to see the Obama Administration in.
