Will Clinton and Obama work well as a team?

Most people agree that President Elect Obama and Hillary Clinton are strong, capable leaders, especially when it comes to foreign policy. But can they work well together? Technically, The President and his Secretary of State should work very very closely and have very similar goals and plans. Clinton and Obama do not have the same strategies when it comes to foreign policy, but it seems that they are going to be working together despite all this. Can it work? Would it be a good choice?

I do think that Obama and Clinton will work well together and that this was a very smart decision for Obama. One of the reasons I was originally a Hillary supporter was beacuse of her experience in foreign policy and international relations. I think that one of Obama's unique qualities is his self-confidence. He is not afraid to appoint people to his cabinent who will argue with him and who are better than him at certain areas. To me, Obama and Clinton have more similarites than differences and this was yet another thoughtful, intelligent appointment by Obama.

I think that they can definitely work well together. Though there was infighting in the democratic party between the Hillary and Obama camps Obama came out as the winner and I don't think Hillary will fight with the person that gave her a very important position. Consider the example of Biden and Obama. Did Biden attack Obama when he was running for president during the primaries? Yes he did. Is that a problem now? No. I dont see much of a reason why the Hillary issue would be any different.

While the campaign between Clinton and Obama was very heated, they never really meaningfully clashed over foreign policy. It seems to me that while they each tried to pick the other apart, the differences were more about leadership styles and agenda setting than actual policy. While Hillary talked of her experience, Obama talked about change and fresh perspective. The two of them together should make a formidable team, and if we believe Hilary Clinton at all, they will work just fine together.(Besides they'll get Bill Clinton's advice as a added bonus.

they are both extremily strong leaders, and because of this i think that they will not get along. personally i think that Hillary hates obama and rightfully so. She was talked about as being the next possible president for years, then obama swooped in and yanked it from her in the nick of time. im not saying that i hate obama or anyone should but i would totally understand if she personally slipped him a poison pill. because of this i think that they will not get along. i also think that its funny that she would potentially work as the secretary, because they bumped heads on foreign issues as much as anything. also i think that obama is going to give be giving hillary clinton crazy favors because of the fact that she and bill campeigned for him tirelessly. however she might have not only campeigned for him for future favors but because she really believed that he would make a president than the elderly one.

Oh yeah, they will. Of course they are going to disagree on some issues, though this is of little importance. Both hold the same core ideologic views, and both will act as politicos, taking the values they know and using the will of the people to make their decisions. There just isn't enough of a difference in the two in terms of politics to create a disruption in the political process.

I also think that because most democrats rooted for one or the other, there will be an increase in the popularity of the government because both are in it. So, yes, they will not only work well, but they will also give this country the feeling of connection with their government that it has recently lost.

While I believe that Obama and Clinton do have their differences, I think they will ultimately work well together. There are going to be some hard feelings, of course, even if Hillary is trying to avoid showing her true feelings, but they are both great compromisers. And I agree with Doria, Obama isn't afraid to agrue with someone and get the opinions of his cabinet and incorporate them into policy. Overall, I think this was a good move by Obama.

I think this was just another political move for the both of them. Obama needs to make sure the party is united in support of him so that he can actually get things done. He backed himself into a corner with the whole "change" motto and unless the country sees something significant, Democrats will be in trouble come 2010.

Clinton on the other hand, just wants to move up the totem poll as she has been doing her entire career. Neither of them get along but have very similar policies and i dont think Clinton will actually have much of an influence on Obama's policies anyway.

I don't think it's going to be that huge of a problem. There is no doubt that it is going to be a long process and several issues will arise, but it's a smart choice to have conflicting ideas so that he can see the other side. Sometimes it takes opposing sides to come together in order to create one functioning idea.

There is no reason they can't work together. It isn't a competition for a goal, now it is just working together to gain a common goal. I am sure that they will work fine together.

Some people say that opposites compliment one another, but I am not completely sure if in a case like this having opposites (or at least very different strategies) is a good thing. I guess their different views will help them keep one another in check and if they are capable of working together and getting stuff done, the result may satisfy a broader range of people because of the middle-ground they reached in order to make one another happy.

I thinks its kind of annoying that Clinton has moved into such a high position. I mean she already had loast the nomination months ago and now has managed to crawl into Obama's cabinet. I agree with Aaron that it is mostly just a political move for both of them. It makes Obama look good for appointing his previous running mate to such a high position, regardless of if they get along or not. And of course Hilary improves her career in Washington. Hopefully, Obama can thinks for himself on his policy and not be influenced in the wrong way.

I think that working with people who believe something different then what you might is a good way to see both sides of an issue. However, sometimes it might lead to nothing getting done because of all the arguing. Only time will tell if this is a good or bad thing.

I believe that it will work. There will occasionally be differences, but they will overcome them. Yes, they were rivals, but that is part of the past. I believe that they agreed on most of the current issues, with the exceptions of meeting with American enemies without conditions. Lets also consider the fact that he has already talked to her about these problem. He is a very competent leader, and i am sure he will make the right decisions.
