Downsizing...? Downsizing?

The stock market's crash and the shakiness of the economy continues to affect working Americans. Companies are still trying to cut down on spending by laying off employees left and right. Although this seems like a necessary move on the business's part, it definitely causes concern for most Americans. Citizens throughout the country are losing their jobs, losing their homes, and are worrying about what tomorrow will bring and how their bills will ge paid. It is very depressing to see America in this state and the country needs to take action right now. Since people have lost their jobs, spending has gone down and it seems like a never ending downward cycle...Hopefully Obama's economic plan (which we blogged about earlier) will be just what this country needs.

If you want information on which companies are downsizing (in the words of Dwight Schrute) go to the following site!

I seems like we really are hitting a depression. Its really quite frightening. Hopefully, Obama's economic plan aiming to open 2.5 million new jobs by 2011 will work. All the promise and change is being put on our new president. Hopefully, he wont let us down.

Well according to Keynes what we need to turn this economic crisis around is good ol' American consumerism. And what better time to do it than the holiday season!

My mom's company is downsizing a great deal. This not only devastates the lives of the unemployed, but also makes it more difficult to run a company because of a lack of support in key areas.

Im not an economist so Im struggling to understand this. We need consumerism to jump-start the economy. When people work, they feel as though they can comfortably afford the things they need. Businesses make money, can hire more workers, more people get money, problem solved. So...why are businesses laying off workers? Especially as the holiday season nears.

National minimum wage-$6.55
Teddy bear for your child- $10
The lives of hardworking Americans: Apparently, they aren't worth the $6.55.

Wasn't that how the depression started, but this time around we have some government programs that are supposed to encourage the economy to not stagnate. I really hope this isn't going to be a repeat of the great depression because the thing that got us out of that was WWII.

Downsizing at a time like this is probably not the best thing to do even though it seems to be the only option. There has got to be a better way.

I don't know maybe increasing the number of jobs rather then downsizing.

keep in mind just because obama says he wants to open 2.5 million jobs doesnt mean that it's going to happen, you cant just create 2.5 million jobs out of no where, i cant make a huge argument because im not that educated in obamas specific plan but i know for a fact that if he does help us out of this economic downfall its not going to happen until at least a good 2 years. also smart choice on the advisor (Very very southern adds diversity to his squad)

Keynes is still wrong.
