What's your news IQ?

Where do Aragon gov students fit into the national average?

Take the quiz at http://pewresearch.org/newsiq/quiz/

I just took the quiz and i got a 59%...its kind of sad that, that was above the national average. I was kind of surprised when i looked at the gender national average and the female national percentage was only 39%, while the male national percentage was 56%. I remember reading in our text book that women as a group tend to be a little less informed than men, but i found the difference quite large with the percentages.

I got 4 wrong out of 12, it said I was in the 69th percentile... the ones I guessed on were the ones I got wrong so the other ones I actually knew, and almost all of them I knew because of Gov class, like I can remember learning them, so that's good. :)

That is a really big difference between the male and females..
Oh wait actually though I guess on the one that was: Can you name the chairperson of the Democratic National Committee?
and I know how many have died in Iraq because mr. colglaizer told us that..

It's kinda funny also that the older people knew more in that poll (that sounds funny..) but it makes sense since you think they probably have more time to follow news..

I made my dad take it, he's a college graduate over 50 and he got the same percentage, and he's pretty in to politics so I feel pretty good. ;)

11/12. I made educated guesses on the ones with the figures (I had a good idea of range the real answer was in). The one that I missed was the one about the talk show host. Did I miss that one intentionally? Perhaps...

The question about the dow is wrong.

hooray! 12/12, the question about the DOW almost tricked me but then I reread the actual question. It's actually pretty sad that the below 30 avg person only did better than 30% of the population. Do 20 somethings really not care about what's going on in the world and who's a part of it? I thought younger people were supposed to be more active? Or at least interested a little bit?

10/12.. not bad, although I must admit I guessed on a few.

This political IQ test reminds me of an article on Yahoo! News...

"US officials flunk test of Amerian history, economics, civics"

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20081120/od_afp/ushistoryeducationoffbeat

As citizens, we should have at least basic knowledge about our government. However, for elected government officials to fail such a test (and even score worse than ordinary citizens!) is a much more serious problem because of their greater influence in making our country's decisions.
The article goes on to explain that instead of watching movies or talking on the phone, Americans can enhance their civic knowledge by discussing public affairs, taking part in civic activities and reading about current events and history.
