Record Turnout Predicted

http://www.venturacountystar.com/news/2008/nov/03/83-percent-voter-turnout-expected/

According to this article there is over 80 percent turnout expected tomorrow. I am signed up to help at the polls tomorrow and last night when I was talking to the supervisor of my precinct he said he's heard that 80 percent were expected to vote and I was shocked, because as we know from our wonderful AP gov class, normally the percent of people who CAN vote who DO, cirlces around 50 percent. But some polls are expecting up to 83 percent this election which is awesome. Could it be that these candidates apeal to a wider range of people? we know men are more likely to vote than women, but now we have a woman candidate, and also Clinton possibly got a lot more women involved at the primaries, and whites are more likely to vote than minorities, but here we have a black man running, so that could get minorities more involved.

It's interesting, just to add on to what you were saying, but not only is voter participation on the whole expected to be higher than average, but the number of people voting early has been extremly high. There were news clips of voters in Florida standing in line for as much as 5 hours in order to vote early. For whatever reason, people are particularly keen to vote in this election.

this was a very exciting election and it's sad to see it go. It just goes to show that the more exciting our candidates, the more politically active we will be. Now I'm not saying they should be able to motorcycle through hula hoops of fire (which'd be cool by the way). But we are living in a time of history that people might actually remember. We could see our first black president, which just goes to show just how far a majority of our country has progressed since the Civil War. It's important to point out that no other democracy with a white population majority (Britain, France, etc.) has ever elected a black president or prime minister despite having gotten rid of slavery before the United States.
Yeah! Progress! Or we could elect an old white man. Yeah!...Old White Men!? Which is why it's important that not only 83% go to the polls, but 100%! Besides, if you vote, you get a free coffee from Starbucks. Who wouldn't want to vote if you get a free coffee?

when aragon did its mock vote...almost 500 kids came to vote. it just shows you how much involved we are in this election. and since we are already so involved at this age...wait until we actually CAN vote!! lets keep being active and educated everyone :]

i also heard on the radio going home that this year there has been breakout number of kids and ppl working at polls...officials have never had to turn away people, but this year they have to. it just shows you how america really is changing and we're taking a stand! no more wishy washy-ness :]
