Obama Making Good on Campaign Promises

As I'm sure many of you recall, President Obama made many promises to the American public through out his campaign. One of his many promises was that he would go through "the federal budget, line by line, eliminating programs that no longer work". He has also promised to fix "the failed promises of George W. Bush". It looks as if Obama is already making good on this promise. Obama and his advisors have already begun the process of reveiwing all of Bush's executive orders. Reports have said that Obama's transition team has already identified a number of issues where Obama can issue executive orders once Obama assumes the office of president.

i still doubt his ability to go through it ALL line by line, but then again, you never know. Maybe he can if he just delegates work to a ton of people. I think starting this (the line-by-line review) was a good move for Obama as it shows people that he is not only going to keep his promise but also that he is dedicated and is willing to begin his job before it even starts!

This was definitely a wise decision by Obama, as it helps him gain the trust of both those who supported him in the campaign and those who did not by adhering to his own promises. Although it seems unlikely that every program will be fixed, at least he is making progress now, which is more than Congress did back when it couldn't pass a single bill.

I don't think he is looking at the text line per line. I think he already knows what he wants to get rid off and is just saying he is going through all the lines so that people would think he is going to keep is promises. But maybe he is not like other politicians and is going to keep his promises.

Yeah he himself will probably not go through it line by line and it would probably be his cabinet that does that which makes me worry because he has yet to assemble one and considering how he has only been a senator for 8 years, this might prove difficult and i just hope that he chooses wisely

I don't want to put a downer on all this happiness, but he isn't president yet. he cannot do anything yet. we will not know if he has made good until January 20th

Even if he can't do anything yet, he can still look through the programs with his people and decide which programs will be eliminated when he does take office. I think this is a very good move by Obama, and i think it's very needed. I feel there are many programs out there that are government should not be funding and wasting money on.

I dont think that this is simply a ployto make peoplthink that he is going follow through wiht is campaign promises but it could simply be a preparatio for his job in order to "hit the ground rnning" so that he does nothave the period of criticism that Clinton got becuse of his time where he did nothing.

I agree with Selina. I feel that although Obama promises to read over the federal budget line by line, it sounds too good to be true. First of all, the president definately does not have that kind of time. Second of all, there are much more effective ways of changing the budget crisis than just crossing things out. Personally, I think Obama just used the line-by-line quote to appeal to the voters; he was just flowering the public with some fancy promises. However, if I'm wrong and Obama does come through with this goal, he is one smart and dedicated man!
