This is scary because apparently, an explosive C cup could blast a hole in an airplane's fuselage, easily causing it to crash. Also, it isn't just women... MI5 has also found out that men have been putting the PETN explosives in their buttocks.
The only way to detect these PETN explosives are by body scanners, but there has been some controversy over using those in the airports. Many deem them useless and unnecessary. Also, there have been incidents in the past in which airport workers have "abused" the equipment: click for direct link of an example.
I guess some people could call the person who thought of putting bombs inside people is creative, but I disagree. I think whoever thought this is slightly gross. It is pretty scary that it seems like the suicide bombers with PETN are almost impossible to detect.

I think that whoever thought of putting bombs inside of people is more than slightly gross. This really shows how desperate terrorists are getting. If the only way to detect PETN explosives is to use body scanners then saving innocent lives from a suicide bomber is worth the few incidents of worker abuse of the equipment.
I agree with Dana, but I do have to give the terrorists props. It takes quite an imagination to be able to think of putting a bomb not secretly hidden outside of one's body, but actually inside. I do believe it is gross however, and I wonder how counter terrorism will be able to safely detect and secure our airports under this new threat. I think that if counter terrorism does find a specific x-ray or some sort of detection device, privacy issues will be widespread. People already complain about the privacy issues with the current x rays. I wonder how they will react to a PETN x ray.
Have there actually been any incidences where a C cup blew up an airplane?
Or is it just that they found out that terrorists were implanting explosives inside themselves in some way other than having an airplane explode?

Thats distrubing in so many ways. I mean i know somoene who has metal in his arms because of some incident so everytime he goes to the airport he has to be fully scanned by the security guards. Still really? Is this what human life is now amounted to? Bombs?
I read about this a few days ago as well. This definitely shows the desperation that the terrorists now have. Also, I guess the body scanners are pretty tedious and can lead to some harassment issues, but they should still be used to save the lives of innocent people. I think we should start using the body scanners to prevent an attack from ever happening. Perhaps this will dissuade the terrorists from using the tactic in the future.
