10 Places NOT to Use Your Debit Card

I thought this informative article was pretty interesting because I use my debit card A LOT. I usually use my debit card instead of cash, because I hate getting a bunch of coins back when I pay with cash. However, I guess there's some disadvantages to using debit cards all the time because as the article says, it is a direct line to your bank account. That's scary to think about. The ten places that you shouldn't use your debit card are:

1. Online
2. Big-Ticket items
3. Deposit required items
4. Restaurants
5. When you're a new customer
6. Buy now, take delivery later
7. Recurring payments
8. Future travel
9. Gas stations and hotels
10. Checkouts or ATMS that look "off."

The article explains in more detail why these 10 places are no good for debit cards. I guess i'll be paying more attention to where I'm using my debit card next time. But cash is so annoying!

Oh shoot. Sorry Brian. I didn't know you posted on the same article haha. I started my post yesterday so I just continued it today, and didn't go to the home page of the blog. Sorry! I don't see a delete button to delete my post. :[

I find this a really interesting article because the only form of card I have is a debit card because I don't yet trust myself with a credit card. I have definitely used my cared for numbers 1, 4, 5, and 9 but have had NO problems with using it. I also get a small amount of interest and because I'm on the college student program I get cash back for my purchases. I think that this article is a little faulty and based solely on some extreme cases because usually debit cards are pretty darn secure even with today's hackers.

I really like this post. I find it very interesting.Eventhough I don't have a debit card yet, I feel like it's helpful to know what to look after when I do get one. Online? The gas station? Hotels? These very likely seem like places anyone would decide to use a debit card instead of carrying cash around. Especially online; since everything is paid by card.

This article really surprised me. I actually did not expect the Internet to be the number one. Mostly because, from a personal opinion, I have used my parents debit card, with their consent ofcourse(!)to buy certain items on the internet such as clothes etc. Both of them manage their accounts through an online Bank of American and never have they told me of anything suspicious. But every website that I have bought something from has always asked for a security number that is listed on the back of the debit which I believe protects the card. I think that as long as one goes to popular and well known websites than there should be no worry.

Well this is a eye opening article for me as well because I also prefer using my debit card. Just recently someone I know had their "identity stolen" and although they caught it before there was too much damage done, it is still not a fun situation to deal with. I guess we just need to pay a little more attention to how we are using our debit cards, as it seems to be a pretty popular and efficient thing among kids our age.
