Fat Women Wants to Break Record

A woman in New Jersey currently weighs just over 600 pounds, but she isn't planning on stopping there. NO, she is going for a record 1,000. She claims "'I'm not hurting anyone'" but it is evident that she is basically killing herself. And although it is her body and she has the choice to do that if she wants, she is effecting others who will be paying for her huge medical bills with their tax money that could be going to things that are actually useful to the rest of us.

The woman quotes "'I love eating and people love watching me eat.'" She wants to gain all this weight in order to be the heaviest woman on earth. To me this looks like she is in it 100% for the attention, and it seems quite sad. Is the opportunity cost of that attention, all the health risks associated with gaining that much weight, really worth it? Well apparently to her it is. The fact that she also thinks it's totally natural and not hurting anyone also demonstrates how naive she is. How could you possibly think with all the medical research out there that is natural?

Michelle Obama is trying to tackle childhood obesity, I think this is a great ambition. However, it seems that maybe remembering the older generation will help things as well. The woman in this article has two kids and a boyfriend. If kids grow up with an example like her they won't know any better, but if positive encouragement begins at home it can only help the situation.

I hope this woman realizes that she isn't receiving attention for any of the right reasons and that she is going to die extremely early due to her awful lifestyle. It is people like her who give America a bad name in terms of our obesity problem, and she is only making the problem worse.

I thought this article was interesting so let me know what you guys think. Click on the title for the full article.

Whoah. What is this lady thinking? 1000 pounds?! Being 600 pounds is already extremely dangerous. Trying to reach 1000 pounds is just ridiculous. This woman is out of her mind and endangering her life. Obesity is a serious health issue, and this woman is at a huge risk for medical problems, such as a heart attack.

I agree with Lizzy that this woman is also showing a bad example to her kids. I hope this lady changes her mind!

That is really sad. I agree with Lizzy that it does seem like a complete cry for attention.

Its ridiculous that huge amounts of people all over the world are dying of starvation, and this lady is eating herself to death.so so stupid.

The opportunity cost of assosciated with being obese is having a healthy and practical lifestyle. Remember that opportunity cost is what one misses out as a result of choosing what one did. Being the heaviest woman on earth to get attention may be a cost, but it is not the opportunity cost.

I won't play devil's advocate this time for the woman's own medical sake. Although she is 60% complete with her morbid goal, she likely won't like the negative attention and risks that come with such a dangerous achievement. Fat contests are simply things that America does not look up to. She has a warped perspective of what the public thinks if she thinks that we will look up to someone who Conagra and Mars food corporation (and other food processing giants) would be proud of. The common belief is that obese people are rather insecure with their own image, especially women. But this woman is way too self-confident. I know first hand by experience the serious consequences of being overconfident, and for her the consequences are going to be no less than medical doom and gloom and possible negative press. But, not all hope is lost, not yet. If she is able to garner the media's attention for a prolonged period of time, then she can redeem America's image of obesity by redeeming her own body weight. I mean, she is a pretty hefty woman. If she can lose weight then anyone under 600 lbs can too. All it takes is a liposuction procedure to get started then continued with exercise and proper diets!

who loves to watch her eat is my question.
i do strongly believe people should do what they love to do but to a certain extent, one that does not harm oneself.
it is kind of ironic that the fattest woman would be from America and totally agree that this passion for being the heaviest woman on the earth is a win-lose situation

People who want her to evidently stuff herself to kill herself. I think shes asking for the wrong type of attention as well. Sure, this might get her into the book of world records but really does she want to be remembered this way? I think that the negative comments about her build may have actually influenced her into being overly prideful about how much she eats.

Successful attention troll is successful... Just sayin'.... as far as I'm concerned this story has no place on any site that host news...I mean for real guys this is like saying "Eat your self into death don't worry about it its cool.Yeah have our media attention while millions of other useful news stories could be posted... it's cool"

Totally agree with Tim that this story should not be news. I was literally just thinking about a kind-of similar disparity: that San Mateo county can enact a comprehensive anti drunk-driving program for St. Patrick's day involving dozens of officers and cars, while it took the UN three weeks to launch an ineffective and understaffed effort for police patrols in Haitian camps where women are raped EVERY DAY. So not right.

And did anyone know in some African/Arab countries where extra fat is a sign of wealth parents force-feed their daughters?

"Mint was 4 when her family began to force her to drink 14 gallons of camel’s milk a day. When she vomited, she was beaten. If she refused to drink, her fingers were bent back until they touched her hand. Her stomach hurt so much she prayed all the animals in the world would die so that there would be no more milk." (http://martinaquino.wordpress.com/2007/04/18/fat-women-are-beautiful-thin-women-are-disgusting/)

woah that's horrible, maybe on the same level as chinese foot-binding. I am so grateful for my sane, organically inclined parents right now.

Woah, you're comparing managing a county with managing an entire country in a crisis. One is clearly easier to control than the other.

liza, i saw an oprah special on that subject. women were forced to eat and gain weight, which is hard to understand in america where everyone is so concerned about being stick thin (except the 600 going on 1000 pound lady). different countries have different images of beauty and i dont know which is worse: pressure to gain unnecessary weight or pressure to lose unnecessary weight?

Sorry Kevin, i typed "camps", it was actually just 1 camp (probably a bit smaller than all of San Mateo county). I'd read the article if you're interested.

And I don't know which is worse, I guess both are equally damaging to girls mentally and physically. At least in America it isn't custom for moms to force-starve their daughters, although i have heard stories about "you're too fat" moms who criticize their daughter's weight.

I'm just still really shock and can't believe that this women is willing to risk her health in order to be the heaviest person alive. This is a bad example to her kids and the future generation!
