NATO Service Member Killed

Today, NATO received news of one of it's service members dying in Kabul, Afghanistan. Details have not been released, but it is known that the man was taken hostage and killed during an attack in Kabul. The man had been in Afghanistan, along with other U.S. troops, in order to regain control of the Taliban strongholds that had recently triggered increased fighting. This will be the 13th NATO member killed just this month and will add to the 670 members killed in 2010.

It is really sad to see that so many people are still dying even after all these years. Personally, I think we have lost enough by going into this war, and it is time to be over. These death tolls show that we are still hurting ourselves by going over seas. It is not fair for people to go there with good intentions and get captured, tortured, and then killed like this man was. Things need to change! But what?

This is indeed a terrible thing to happen, but at the same time that's war. I think that we also shouldn't disregard the civilian casualties in Afghanistan, which numbers nearly 7,000 since 2006. To me we have a few options: we can stay in Afghanistan with the strategy we have now, dramatically increase the number of troops sent over to help the war effort, or just pull out and leave the country as is. Maybe that $1 Trillion cache of rare-earth materials can pay for the war.

PLEASE don't blow this out of proportion.

this is not like vietnam where you could be taken out of an everyday life out of force from a draft. These guys volunteered. There is at least some kind of understanding that one is going to war.

I am not a supporter of war, but when you start something you finish it. Otherwise those who have died will have died in vain.

You want to help out? go fix the job market! Even soldiers overseas are wondering how they are going to find a job when they get back.

This news article was on my homepage and I found it really sad. Because of a war that's been going on for the past seven or so years, many people are still dying at the hands of the Taliban. The Taliban is pretty much merciless by now when it comes to Americans in their territory. We need to get out of the war but it's easier said than done. The war is killing innocent people who are risking their lives for a lost cause..while we try to help others, we end up hurting ourselves even more. It's just better to stay out of other countries' problems and ensure the safety of our own people.

I have to agree with Ray. It's not like someone put a gun to their head and told them to go to war. These soldiers sacrificed their freedom to fight for our saftey. I agree with Ray that we shouldn't let these lives go in vain.
The only thing that counfuses me is that, everyone is that everyone is wanting to pull out of the war. But from my memory right after 9/11 the same people who want to pull out now, wanted to go to war then. Is it because we thought it would be a quick war? Are we quitting out of fustration?

I have to agree with raymond and casper. If you start something you finish it. If the U.S pulls out that will put the taliban in control again and lead to oppression of citizens in afghanistan. People will not even be able to have their own natural rights that are given to them. I also agree that we need to pull out, that many people are dying, but if we pull out all their deaths will be in vain. The U.S has put in so much time a resources into finding and destroying the Taliban, We need to finish the job so we don't desert our allies and we can have the image of being a protector of democracy.
