Nuclear Threat?

In the tradgey of the earthquake in Japan, Japanese officials have another thing to worry about. The nuclear power plants. According to the Japanese officials, two nuclear power plants "can no longer cool radioactive substances". The two plants, Fukushima Daini and Fukushima Daiichi power plants, both had reactors that failed. The cause of the failure was damage due to the earthquake. In response from the news, Prime Minister Naoto Kan ordered an evacuation to those within 10 kilometers of the reactor. It's sad that bad things keep piling onto Japan's plate. I hope that Japan can overcome this difficult time.

I am truly praying that the situation with the nuclear power plants doesn't get worse. If the radioactive substances get out, there will be years of negative impacts ahead as a result to not only Japan, but also the environment. I feel like the situation serves as another example against the erection of nuclear power plants in the U.S.

This shows how something so unexpected can negatively affect an entire population. If the power plant situation worsens, it could affect people around the area with illnesses whether it be immediate or long term. I agree with Casper...it's really saddening that Japan suffered such losses and still have to deal with this.
