This is not funny...i'm ashamed and shocked that this is still happening

Students were appalled to see a noose hanging in the University of California San Diego. Hundreds of students gathered around the chancellor's office. Chancellor Marye Fox "promised to get to the bottom of the 'dastardly crime.'"

"The demonstrators — some in tears, others hoarse from a week of yelling at race-related protests — were not pacified and later occupied a warren of offices next to the locked door of Fox’s personal suite for nearly six hours, starting about noon. Fox and her staff left the building.

About 150 students spread out over desks and floors. Some gave fiery speeches and sang protest songs, while also pleading for calm. Pizza and sandwiches were handed out between chants of, “Real pain, real action!”

This is truly untenable. I'm shocked that history is still repeating itself. We should know better. And that's what is sad: we still don't know. There are still people out there who are psychos. For crying out loud, we have one of the best presidents: OBAMA. And he is African American.

Why is still going on? When are some people going to learn?

I am appalled to see this happen so close to home. I even visited UCSD and never did I sense such a tense atmosphere. This noose is a very serious act of hate and shows the bigotry still out in America. It just make me think that despite the great strides in accomplishing equality for all, America still has some work to do before it is a "free and equal" country. Acts like this are very serious and should be dealt with very seriously. It is good to see that at least UCSD is taking this act with the utmost gravity.

This is related to my term paper topic! Thanks!

But seriously, what is wrong with people? And at a campus like UCSD? It always seemed like such a chill place...and then this happens?

Yes, I agree that this isn't funny. I also agree that we do still have work to do towards complete equality. I feel a little embarrassed to live in a place that is supposedly "free and equal" yet stuff like this still happens today...

This shines a really negative light onto UCSD, even though it was only a few who were responsible for the noose.

"It was the third racially charged episode involving UCSD students within the past two weeks."

Many students are now fearful for their safety on campus, something that shouldn't happen, especially after the Columbine and Virginia Tech incidents.
