Google Sentanced to Jail in Italy
Three Google executives were sentenced to jail for six months because a video of a few students beating up a child with Down Syndrome was uploaded to Google Video. This case goes against the US and European Union's laws for holding companies responsible for content hosted online.

Wow. My first reaction was "Those guys are jerks". My reaction to the Google Execs not getting prison time was a bit more on the "wtf" side.
I know it sounds dumb, but isn't there a way for sites like Google video and Youtube to check the contents of a video before it's uploaded?
"Google's defence was that it couldn't be held responsible for videos that people uploaded to the site, and that it removed the clip as soon as a complaint was made.
But the court heard that the video remained online for several months, despite complaints asking for it to be removed."
Google says and the court heard ... so ... I'm not really sure.
I don't agree that the google executives should be sentenced to jail...however something should be done so that inapropriate videos can be reported and quickly delted.
I agree and think that the google employees shouldn't have gone to jail, but I do think that Google should do something to make it quicker to delete inappropriate videos.
This is completely ridiculous. All it really means is that those execs can't go on vacation in Italy anymore, but still. The Italians did the same thing in convicting a bunch of CIA officers for rendition, which was conducted in cooperation with the Italian government, including the person who is now DD/O at the Agency.
Yeah, the Google execs were not connected at all to the video in question so it just seems absurd to me.
Aren't the people who are suppose to listening to people's complaints and addressing them suppose to be in trouble instead? But of course, its easier to blame the higher ups than the thousands of workers. It would be nice if they had more people diligently checking videos but as we know there are just way too many videos being uploaded every second to all be checked. The workers don't have the time to go through every video. ;/
I don't like their defense statement though. They are completely responsible for people who uploaded videos on their site. Shouldn't they make a statement people have to agree upon when uploading a video? Maybe they already have this. I've never tried.
