NFL Hall of Fame

Today, Jerry Rice and Emmett Smith were elected into the NFL Hall of Fame. After all, both of these men have won 3 Superbowl titles, as well as being the MVP in one of those Superbowl championships. In order to be elected to the Hall of Fame, each candidate must gain an 80% nomination from the 44 media members. Each of these men will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio on August 7. Each of these men achieved great things in their careers, Rice was the NFL's career receiving and touchdowns leader, while Smith was the top rusher. Both men, when commenting on their nomination began to tear up, something you would never expect from these men. It showed just how much it meant to them, and Rice claimed he could never take this for granted, and compared it to the feeling of winning the Superbowl. These men were nominated alongside John Randle, Russ Grimm, Rickey Jackson, Floyd Little, and Dick LeBeau. This comes at such a great time, as tomorrow is the Superbowl. Personally, I am glad they were nominated, and share along in their joy. Even though Jerry Rice is such a huge celebrity, he never seems to take his fame for granted. He can sometimes be seen walking around in downtown San Mateo, and was recently seen eating at local restaurant Baywatch.

i think jerry rice deserves to be elected into the NFL hall of fame..i dont/didn't watch much pro football but jerry rice was one of the names i consistently heard growing up.
I think celebs that do no take fame for granted. a lot of people get their fame and make it such a big deal. many become cocky or feel dragged into the hollywood image and feel the need to change themselves..like heidi montag..
but i think this is a great honor for both of these players and i think they could be good role models for others as well. they followed their dreams and made it to the top..

I completely agree with Talia. I personally am really excited that Jerry Rice has been elected into the hall because not only have we seen him walking around the Aragon football field like any other parent out there, but I loved watching him play at Candlestick with my dad when I was younger. It gives me some hope that even after extremely famous athletes like Tiger Woods can seem to ruin things for the american public that looked up to them so much, people like Jerry Rice are still able to keep their humble attitudes and appreciate everything they have fortunate enough to achieve.
I think both of these men deserve it based on all their hard work and dedication; they are great icons. Now if only the Niners could pick up another special player like Rice and re-live some of those dynasty years.
