Will marijuana be legal?

Nixon declared a war on drugs almost 40 years ago but CNN reports that about 76% of Americans know the drug war has failed. Millions of people want change due to the fact that millions more have been arrested and billions of dollars are lost. Even the people we should be looking up to have admitted to illegal drugs. George Bush made comments on tape that suggest he did use drugs. Bill Clinton stated that he smoked pot but didn't inhale. Al Gore, Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin admit they used drugs too. Even the FBI had to change their policy of not hiring people that have used illegal drugs in the past because not enough law enforcement positions were being filled when they eliminated all of these people. But the war on drugs has maybe just caused more problems. Due to the campaigns that threaten to arrest and incarcerate drug users simply increased the number of drug related deaths by making drug users too scared to call police for help when a someone has overdosed. Prop 19 will make it legal to grow, sell, and use Marijuana, but will that be a good or bad thing?

I believe that marijuana won't be legal because of all the moral issues dealing with it. I do know that there are a lot of benefits if it does go legal though because the government will be able to make money if they make marijuana legal and tax it. There will be people always smoking marijuana so I believe it would be a good idea to atleast make money from it. A compromise I thought of for the people who do not want to legalize marijuana is that if marijuana becomes legal, we will tax it and have some of that tax money be put in for things to go against drug use such as commercials while the rest of the money will be used to help relieve our debt.

I strongly believe that marijuana should not be legalized. Yes, it would be great to have extra cash for other uses in the state of California, but then again, do we want people to be smoking marijuana even when they don't need it? I think that marijuana is affecting society in a negative way as it is right now and legalizing it will make this situation a lot worse. I think there's other alternatives to the use of marijuana for medical needs. I sincerely hope that Prop 19 does not pass.

I feel that prop 19 will be a bad thing. there are many reasons why i feel it will be bad. first of all it will casue a large tax increase which the people dont want. it will also make the price or marijuana rise from current prices and it will lead even more illegal activities within the united states because prices will be too high so people will need to turn to other sources rather then the government and black market dealers for their medical and recrational use
