Has the Tea Party Lost its Grassroots Cred?

This headline caught my attention because we recently talked about this in class. The article says that last week the Tea Party accepted a million dollar anonymous donation. There was a lot of criticism that even though the money was supposed to go to local groups, the central organization was granting the money, so it is still very much led from the top, not the bottom-up.
Do you think they have lost their grassroots reputation? Does the donation have an effect on their claimed grassroots ideals? How do you think will this change in image will effect their efforts as a party?
