This is Gross and Sad: Young Texan Teacher caught for Sex with Minors

The news is out and today is a sad day for many students, faculty, parents and staff at the Irvin El Paso High School in El Paso, Texas.  34 year old Marco Alferez a dance teacher was caught with more than 70 (yes...7 - 0) videos of him engaging in sexual acts with minor students (some as young as elementary school age!)  The teacher was arrested and jailed without bond today after his hearing yesterday.  If you think that's worse, he also had downloaded child pornographic sites to his computer and it was infested within his home.  (not to mention his brain!) And for now he is on administrative paid leave.

First of all, this is gross and absolutely horrific for a teacher and a school district to have to face.  Not only does he have to be looked at as vermin by everyone else, but his nasty sex addiction cost him his job and cost the district their good reputation in which many have said is a good educational system overall...until it was rocked with this horrible scandal.  People don't think and Alferez obviously wasn't thinking of his consequences until it was too late.  This gives teachers a bad name and the school one as well.  The horrible part (not that the story isn't already so horrible) is the fact that he engaged himself with young children (elementary age) which is like 20 something years younger than him....

WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO?????!!!! Scandal after scandal corrupts our media news and is so disheartening to see the growth in crime through the years.  I don't agree that he should be on paid leave, he should be fired, and left in jail to rot for a long time (this is harsh...but remember...he did it with elementary school children)

All I know is there was a lot more than dancing going on in his classroom....

This is indeed a really bad event..I can only imagine how everyone feels. For some of the parents, their children have been stripped of their innocence, and at such a young age too. In addition, because of this one teacher, the other teachers and administrators at the school and its entire district have to suffer the consequences. Now many will look at the school and associate its name with this recent scandal. I agree with Alex- this teacher does not deserve to be on paid leave..he needs to be fired.

This situation reminds me of a similar event a few years ago with a teacher at Mills..no matter where we are, there will always be teachers and people that take advantage of those under them. It's really sad.

I agree with Alex in that this teacher should not be paid since he has left. He has committed a terrible crime and he should due his time in jail... FOR THE REST OF HIS MISERABLE LIFE!!!!! I cannot believe what the world has come to!!! Whenever I hear these stories, I feel so sorry for those kids who were robbed of their innocence. Also, now the school district and the school itself will most likely earn a bad reputation for this one scandal and I don't think that's fair for the school to have to pay the consequences for a teacher who acted in such a gross way. I hope this school can move on from this scandal and continue with its great reputation.

What a revolting story. Usually I wouldn't choose to comment on something like this, but this post got me thinking.

Alex, you mentioned the teacher's "nasty sex addiction." If the man truly was ADDICTED to sex with minors, can this be labeled as a mental disorder? Once someone is addicted to something, they become dependent on it. In my opinion, it seems as though something in the teacher's head was perverted (pun intended) - just as tobacco and other drugs screw with people's systems.

Is there a way for schools to screen teachers for addictions or "illnesses" prior to hiring them to work with students? How can schools find honest, healthy people to teach students and weed out those like Mr. Alferez?

Not to be funny. But the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the title was miss davis from the varsity blues movie

I'm no longer shocked when stories like this happen. Its said because I've heard this kind of thing so many times. Like that incident a year or two ago over at mills high. A teacher set up a camera in the girls bathroom over ther and was recording it and putting it on the school server. I asked my millbrae friends about it, They were being like "yeah, were not really surpised, he would do something like that"

This is not only disgusting but sad. To have to go as far as having sex with elemantary schoolis pretty low of a person. He should be left in jail for the rest of his life because he took and abused so many innocent kids and teens, and that's just vial.

On the note with the poor kids, they should be checked for damage to the brain and in the case of the girls pregnancy.A act like this can really affect the mind, and this is a big lot to handle with in a orderly manner. The students had have these consequences and now suffer physically and mentally from them, because their teacher wanted to take control of them.

A scandal like this will make a good repuation of a school seem worse. Now they all must deal with the affect of being a "bad" school when it was just the teacher. Many parents will hear about this and think it will be unsafe for their children to attend that school, and therefore admittance for students will now be lower.
