Shooting at Tennessee Hospital; gunman kills 1 and self

While many people are marking the 15th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombings, another act of terror took place at the Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville Tennessee. The shooting occurred at about 4:30 today and the gunman killed 1 woman and injured 2 others before committing suicide. All the victims were currently or formerly employed by Parkwest although there seems to be no relationship linking them nor, police suspect, did the gunman ever work there. No names have been released.

There seems to be a recent increase in shooting deaths, recently. With the Fort Hood shootings only a few months in the past and several shootings around schools in the East Bay, especially Richmond, if I remember correctly. I hope this isn't a trend and more of a symptom of heightened access to the news. Either way, it's tragic.

i think that the government should spend more money on trying to reduce the amount of violence across the nation, if i remember correctly, an earlier post stated that Obama was going to start investing in going to mars, but i think that that money should go towards problems that we currently have, example, this shooting.

I agree with you Devin...but I feel like even money won't stop people from making irrational and stupid choices to kill people.Even laws that to try to prevent the dangerous use of handguns aren't really working. People who own guns for protection usually end up using it to murder others. No matter how hard Obama tries to invest money towards reducing violence, it still exists...just like investing money on abstinence programs, teenagers are still going to have sex. I don't really know how violence can be reduced );

This is a completely tragic incident. I think that people tend to focus only on the large tragedies or shootings, but these smaller shootings, in which only one or two are killed are ignored or pushed aside, which only makes these incidents even more devastating and tragic. I think that this increase in violence may have to do with the economic standpoint we are in. The stress and worry many adults and children have to deal with, causes people to lash out in other ways. Some have the belief that they have no other way out, wishing only to commit suicide, and some people believe that if they have to be miserable in their lives, they might as well bring others down with them, leading to the violent outcry of people. In any matter, this is a tragic outcome.

Actually Devin, Obama proposing cutting the space program and putting more reliance on private ventures (such as SpaceX) for future space missions.

Oopsies. Turns out Obama is actually giving NASA another $100 billion over the next five years (not all at once, mind you). However, ambitions to go to the Moon and Mars will be pushed back under Obama's proposal.
