Coke Bottle Slide

Remember going to watch a Giant's game, and then perhaps sliding down the Coca-Cola bottle slide? Well, the famous slide is not nearly as safe as it was once thought to be. There have been at least 55 reported incidents of people getting injured, and the slide has failed 2 safety inspections in recent years. The Giants are currently facing a $6 million lawsuit by a man who injured his left knee and ankle. Others have broken their knees or otherwise had their leg twisted and injured.

I was surprised to learn that the Giants are the ones being sued, although since I am not all that knowledgeable of sports, I could be missing vital information pertaining to the subject. I would have expected the lawsuits to be primarily directed towards the creator of the slide, Hags Play (The company has settled lawsuits pertaining to the Guzzler in the past).

I find the legal system in America kind of sad but mostly ridiculous. This man hurt his knee and ankle, so he gets to sue for 6 million dollars... His doctors fee was not 6 million dollars. He could not have been out of work for 6 million dollars worth of hours (unless he runs a company or something). The fact is that while there needs to be a penalty for recklessness, the rewards for a lawsuit are too much of an incentive to sue. People do it frivolously and way too frequently. It costs the defendants their homes and their life savings sometimes when they lose these kind of lawsuits. Now, in this case the giants can cover it. But, should they have to?

I have heard of the danger of riding the slide at pac bell park stadium and have seen shows about how people have broken bones on it. I think that it is the right thing to do by sueing them so because they have not fixed the problem.

I don't understand why the Giants are the ones being blamed for these accidents. For one thing, they aren't the ones that made the slide, Hags Play did, so they should be the ones that are held responsible. Secondly, what are adults doing going on the Guzzler? I thought it was for kids? Maybe that's why they're getting injured; they're too big for the slide and that's why they get stuck because you just hear about adults getting hurt on the slide, not kids.

Giants shouldn't have to cover this. It's not like they wanted it to happen. This incident was clearly and accident and sueing for $6 million is a bit ridiculous.
