Chilean priest allegedly abused 5 young men

On Thursday, a Chilean prosecutor announced a criminal investigation that an extremely retired priest accused of sexually abusing five young men in his residence.
The allegations were just confirmed this week by the archbishop of Santiago as Chile's Roman Catholic leadership appealed publicly for forgiveness for abusing 20 clergy members; five of all of the clergy members were convicted and 15 others are under investigation.

Karadima, who is now 80 years old, is the accused man of sexually abusing people in this residence. However, he is still respected within Chile's church.
The conclusion is that Attorney Juan Pablo Hermosilla says that the men did not want to bring charges against the priest. "'He was their spiritual guide, the one they confessed to, and for this reason he has a very strong power over them,' Hermosilla said."

I think that the priest should still receive punishment for his wrongdoings. What do you guys think?

Oh what a surprise more priests abusing young men...seriously though Why is everyone so surprised...the group has done it before and most likely will keep doing it unless a strict crack down happens

It is never good to abuse people... even if they respect him and trust him, that still gives him no right to abuse people. I agree and hope he does get punished.

I believe that the priest should have a punishment. Just because your a person in power doesn't mean that you can get away with everything. I think that he has to learn his lesson and have a punishment. I'm not saying that they punishment should be like a death sentence, but it should be more along the lines of what ever is appropriate. Also, why would the priest sexually abuse little kids? It is also possible that he didn't do it and someone is trying to frame him. If he did do it, then the criminal investigation is necessary; however, i think that they should have it on the down low and not put too much press on it because what a person does on his own time is his business and I don't think that everyone should know about it. A mans business is a mans business and not everyone else's.

Sorry but hes not a priest if hes going to abuse his power that way. He deserves severe punishment or other priests or people in power will just follow suit knowing they won't get caught. That's just really wrong.

So what if the guy was their "spiritual guide"..? He should still be punished and serve jail time. So much for treating everyone equally. It's despicable to see that he's still respected in the Church.

Any priest accused of abusing a child, whether it is rape, or any other possible abuse, they should be sentenced to jail. Like Tim Dyer said, why is everybody surprised at such accusations...its a priest. They really don't seem so holly if they are going around de-purifying the minds of the young, and opening their eyes to what is really considered pure evil in this world.
-Yes, this priest should be convicted, and thrown in jail, regardless of his position in the catholic church.

I have heard so many cases about priests abusing/raping children, or covering up for other pedophiles in some cases, that it makes me sick to my stomach to hear that they are not being thrown in jail. It's strange that people choose to respect them (the pedophile priests-not all priests) despite their cowardly actions towards innocent children(mostly little boys). Its ironic how these people, who are supposed to be so holly, and into god, but yet the ones who choose to molest children are the ones who open their innocent little eyes to something that is just pure evil and disgusting in so many levels.
