April Fools Gone Wrong

A mayor in Jordan read a news article on April 1st regarding aliens landing in Jafr, eastern Jordan. Thinking it was a legitimate article, he dispatched local security to scour the area for the so called aliens. After not finding a sign of these aliens, he considered evacuating the city as a precaution before he was told it was a prank. Now he's up for suing the newspaper company. Apparently, someone's idea of a joke just didn't make it with the mayor.

Hahaha. Wow. Nice job, on the newspaper's part. I guess the mayor doesn't like jokes. They should have done a story like that in America because: 1.) People would get the joke and 2.)The press would be protected under the First Amendment.

what a scholar.......no wonder he was put into office

at least we can say he is concerned about his people, even if he isnt very perceptive, intelligent, or educated

Really? He's suing a newspaper company because he thought there was an alien threat nearby. I mean I would get it if he fell for something like there was a huge forest fire heading for the city or something but aliens? ;/

Maybe he just wanted to be the first one to discover the aliens.

wow amazing but dissapointing at the same time. how could you forget its april fools! and on top of that believe that there are aliens!! Wow that is crazy. I agree with jodi, they should have done it in america. The press, and the comedy it would have went just like a april fools joke is suppose to go.

I guess it is sometimes easy to forget that it is April Fool's day. Especially since so many people forget dates everyday, including me. But it's not a good reason to sue the newspaper company. And I really find this post amusing.

I can see how a gullible mayor could believe the story. However, what about his advisers? What were they doing when he was giving orders regarding these aliens?

Wow, this sounds just like when Orson Welles broadcasted a version of War of the Worlds on the radio on Halloween in 1938. Pretty much the same thing happened: people freaked out and started evacuating their houses. They thought the story was real because it was presented as a series of news bulletins. So Jodi, I don't think that Americans would get it because they showed that they can't already. I think the credibility of the newspaper may have been working against it.

HMMM! I think that before he wanted to evacuate part of the country and have a panic attack he should have checked out other sources and get proof of what is really going on... and of course realize that it was april fools day
