Obama's Nuclear Policy
Obama issued a new policy on the use of nuclear weapons. The United States will not use nuclear weapons against states that are in compliance with the Non-Proliferation Treaty. States that have broken that treaty are still potential targets of a nuclear attack. Experts are fearing that this policy is a harbinger of a longer lasting nuclear arsenal and the road to disarmament is a little longer than projected. The effects of a policy like this may be to please Republicans so Obama can get new nuclear treaties passed in the near future. I think we may have to wait and see how this develops.

I believe it to be good that Obama is showing that he is really thinking about nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons are scary and having a policy wil really be good. Nuclear weapons are devastating. Just look at what happened to hiroshima.
there will always be an arsenal of weapons ready here in the US and in many of our overseas bases, even if they arent right in the noses of other countries and armed...we wont disarm completely. It doesnt make sense to trust that countries like Russia will follow in our example, not when the rest of the world already sees America as weak.....
It is good that nuclear weapons are wanted by obama, but dont you think that it might just turn in to another cold war. Especially now, times are really hard and being able to by this and use these nuclear weapons I believe it is way to much. I belive that wars should be fought the way that they are suppose to and not with nuclear weapons. They are a way to kill the enviornment and arent we suppose to be going green?
I think that nuclear weapons are a good thing to have on our side. I also believe in nuclear energy, as a new form of energy to use. Although there are some downsides to nuclear energy, the upside seems to outweigh the negatives. I do think that Obama should be open minded to many different possibilities, and if nuclear weapons are an option, then we will be a power to he rest of the world. It may help us have a greater influence over the rest of the world, but just because we have these weapons doesnt mean we have to use them!

I agree with Jane. It's great knowing there can be other options out there. Nuclear energy can be helpful to both the community and the country as a whole. It is useful to have a threat in our hands. This way, other countries will come to fear us, and like Colin said, prevent another Hiroshima that may happen here.
