Planning on applying to any UCs or CSUs?
-Remember the UC college application workshop is tomorrow morning in the library and the CSU one is next week.
-Remember that the UC and CSU systems are recieving less money from the state because of the economic crisis.
-Remember that the UC and CSU systems now have to face these state budget cuts
-Remember as a result of buget cuts colleges may reduce the number of classes they offer or the number of faculty they keep on the payroll
-Remember that many college students are not graduating on time because they cannot get into the classes they need to graduate
-Remember that now colleges are hiking up the cost of tuition and going after the higher paying out of state student instead of the taxpaying California student to compensate for the state budget cuts
College is getting harder to get into more now than ever. The financial crisis is not helping either. Good Luck!
Sincerly,
Reality

CSUs and the UCs harder to get into than ever?
Life is good being a senior.
I agree with Phoebe! This is just a cheery on top for us seniors since we have such a large amount of graduating people this year so it's extra competitive!

Yep. That's why out of state seems so much nicer now. =] Didn't the UCs cut their budget by a third?
I was just wondering.. some people said that 1992 was a baby boom.. is that true? ( I forgot where I heard this from )
Well, I agree that it is harder to get into CSUs and UCs now than ever. But these budget cuts are constant for the next FIVE years. Think about those who have to apply to UCs and CSUs five years from now.
My SAT classes specifically told me that UCs are cutting back 1000 to 1500 students per year for all schools. We have about nine UCs I believe. That means each school will lose a little over 100 students per year for the next five years.
ouch.
Five years from now, it'll be way worse than it is now.
On the other hand, if you apply to private schools, we don't have the same problem. The only problem we face is the baby boom.
I have to agree with everyone about this. It's definitely going to be tough for the class of '10 because of the budget cuts. Less classes, less admissions, higher tuitions. And on top of that students are becoming more and more competitive, aiming for 4.0+ GPAs and 2000+ SAT scores. But Yoda's right, each passing graduating class will have to suffer the same if not more than what we're suffering already.
I'm totally psyched for college.
I agree with everyone here, that CSU's and UC's are now harder to get into because of the budget cuts, economic crisis, competition, higher tuitions, and more people wanting to go into college now because now we depend on a better career to support our selfs in the future unlike the last generation. I also think that now it is even harder to get into a CSU because students who were trying to get into a UC's found it more challenging, so therefore they go towards the CSU's. So the people who just had the basic requirements are challenged more to get in.
